Job Description – Service Technician



1. Responsibilities

2. Competence & Qualifications

Competence requirements:

Passing of the ALATAS recruitment test

Apprentice served in either, Electrical, Mechanical or Hydraulic Engineering

Recommended qualifications:

Technical Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or Industrial Maintenance or Engineering.

Certification in Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems.

Background in Electrical systems & PLC training

Certification in Rigging and lifting operations

Preferably OEM Training on Cranes

Certification in Working at height, First Aid Fire safety, Confined Space. and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.

C1 Driving License

Recommended experience:

Minimum 1 year experience in marine crane environment

Minimum 2 years’ experience in heavy equipment or crane maintenance/repair.

Good knowledge of working with lifting equipment and techniques used

Experience in writing detailed mechanical/hydraulic inspection reports

Experience in troubleshooting problems with mechanical and hydraulic equipment and systems

Skills

Possess’ technical skills that relates to Mechanical, Hydraulic, Electrical / Electronic aspects.

Possess’ safety skills, to mention a few; Rigging & Lifting Safety, Working at Height, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Health & Safety Compliance and Emergency Response Skills.

Possess’ Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills

Ability to diagnose complex mechanical/electrical faults under time pressure.

Strong attention to detail when inspecting cranes for wear, cracks or electrical faults.

Root cause analysis to prevent recurring breakdowns

Capability to interpret technical manuals, blueprints and wiring diagrams.

Ability to produce clear factual detailed documented reports for all attendances

Work safely with all site staff to ensure a safe working environment

Must be able to communicate with international clients in written and spoken English.



3. General

The Service Technicians often visit client or remote locations to resolve or perform service / maintenance / inspections / repair functions. They are responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of equipment, machinery or systems to ensure they operate safely, efficiently and reliably. They work either in the workshop or at customer sites, providing technical support, performing preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards

The Service Technicians diagnose technical problems, replace faulty parts, calibrate systems, and document service activities. They serve as the link between customers and the company by providing clear communication about technical issues, repair solutions, and service timelines.

4. Job Responsibilities

Responsible to the Service Manager for all activities undertaken for ALATAS

Efficient and safe operation and maintenance of cranes and other lifting/hoisting gear. Offloading and back loading of supplies and equipment. Supervision and provision of assistance to those assigned to the crane operator by the operations team leader and be familiar with lifting and slinging practices and techniques.

Fully responsible to the Service Manager or Service Coordinator for ensuring that all final verifications specified in Works Instructions, Scope of Works, verbal communications and ALATAS specifications are carried out and completed.

Liaises with the Service Manager or Service Coordinator to ensure that components, material and/or equipment as necessary is inspected and is correct to specifications or as required and ensure, where applicable, that they are delivered in a timely manner to ensure client/ALATAS delivery programs are achieved.

Liaises with the Service Manager or Service Coordinator and Client representatives or the Certifying Authority to carry out repairs, testing and acceptance of the equipment in accordance with their specified requirements.

Liaises with the Service Manager or Service Coordinator to arrange final testing and dates in order to secure contract delivery requirements.

Ensures that all work carried out for ALATAS is backed up with completed written reports fully describing all activities undertaken on a daily basis and explaining in detail recommendations including any parts or materials required to satisfactorily complete the work.

Ensures that all work carried out for ALATAS is backed up with correctly completed timesheets with approval signature by the client representative confirming all hours/activities undertaken and submits the timesheets to the Service Manager or Service Coordinator.

Ensures that during time worked away from ALATAS premises the Service Coordinator is kept fully informed of all work activities to be able to answer any questions to the Service Manager or Client which they may have regarding work being carried out.

Informs the Service Manager or Service Coordinator of any non-conformance in Work Instructions, Scope of Works, verbal communications with regard to work carried out and shall review amended Work instructions, Scope of Works or verbal communications ensuring they are satisfactory to specifications.

Ensures that all work carried out for ALATAS is done in a professional, safe and economical manner to meet ALATAS specifications/standard and our Client specifications/standard.

Liaises with other technicians to ensure the work progresses

Ensures that all measuring and testing equipment is properly used and has a valid certificate of calibration/test.

Ensures that all relevant safety measures and the correct use of personal protective/safety equipment is in place when carrying out work for ALATAS

When requested to do so, be able to work overtime, nightshift work, weekends, onshore and offshore.

When requested to do so, be able to work in Foreign Countries with similar responsibilities

When requested to do so, be able to depart/attend work at short notice.

When requested to do so, adhere to Client Permit to Work and Safety Systems.

When requested to do so, participate in all Safety Drills, Fire and Boat Drills and any other programs called for by the Client.

Maintain and ensure security of all ALATAS equipment and tooling at all times.

Inform Line Manager of any damage to or loss of any of the ALATAS equipment or tooling immediately.

Perform periodic maintenance, repair and overhaul of mechanically/hydraulic and pneumatic equipment as directed.

Understand all ALATAS Safety, Quality and Incident Reporting procedures.

When required to do so, be able to carry out reporting of incidents according to ALATAS incident reporting procedures.

Participate in Emergency Response Team.

Reporting any defects or discrepancies that are of a complex nature.

Effectively communicate with all staff working on platform.

Liaise with all personnel working on the platform and where appropriate onshore.

Participate in team development events.

At all times conduct yourself in a manner befitting a Representative of ALATAS.
