Position Summary

The Service Technician II - Mechanical Service is a skilled HVAC/R service professional responsible for performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, and system optimization on commercial and industrial mechanical systems. This role supports customers by ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of HVAC/R equipment while delivering exceptional service and technical expertise.

Working with moderate independence, the Service Technician II is expected to diagnose equipment issues, recommend corrective actions, perform repairs, and communicate effectively with customers, dispatch, and service leadership. This position serves as a key contributor within GEMCO's Mechanical Service Division and plays an important role in developing junior technicians while continuing to build advanced technical skills.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on commercial and industrial HVAC/R systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, control, and refrigeration system issues and implement corrective actions to restore equipment operation.
  • Service and maintain equipment including chillers, boilers, air handling units, rooftop units, refrigeration systems, hydronic systems, cooling towers, heat pumps, exhaust systems, makeup air units, temperature controls, and related mechanical equipment.
  • Analyze equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve system reliability, efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Perform startup, testing, adjustment, and commissioning activities on mechanical equipment as required.
  • Obtain vendor pricing, source replacement parts, and recommend repair solutions for customer approval.
  • Prepare and submit accurate service reports, repair recommendations, quotes, work orders, and supporting documentation utilizing GEMCO's Service Field App and other business systems.
  • Enter detailed equipment, site, service, and customer information into the service management platform.
  • Communicate professionally with customers regarding equipment conditions, repair options, maintenance recommendations, and project status.
  • Maintain regular communication with dispatch and service leadership regarding scheduling, job progress, required materials, and customer needs.
  • Support emergency service calls and respond to urgent customer requests as assigned.
  • Assist in planning and executing larger repairs, equipment replacements, and service projects.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to Service Technician I personnel and less experienced team members.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company quality standards, manufacturer specifications, and industry best practices.
  • Properly maintain company vehicles, tools, equipment, inventory, and jobsite materials.
  • Participate in technical training programs, certifications, safety meetings, and professional development initiatives.
  • Promote and maintain strong customer relationships through professionalism, responsiveness, and quality workmanship.
  • Follow all company safety policies, customer safety requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain safe work practices at all times.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
