Role overview

We are working with a major oil & gas operator to source for SHES Specialist (Marine Environmental). This is a long-term contract role working on a residential basis with 6 days per week / 8-10 hours to be based in Doha, Qatar or at site office. The role will report to the project planning division manager and will be part of the major projects integration team.

Duration: 36 months (potential for extension)
Location: Doha head office or site (Ras Laffan Industrial City), Qatar
Working schedule: 5 days per week / 8-10 hours per day

Job purpose

Responsible for ensuring that all marine and environmental aspects of offshore and nearshore LNG projects are managed in full compliance with company standards, local regulations, and international best practices. The role supports the development, implementation, and monitoring of environmental and marine protection strategies across all project phases, from design to execution and operations. The SHES Specialist acts as a focal point for environmental and marine matters, ensuring risks are identified, mitigated, and controlled, with particular attention to sensitive marine ecosystems and regulatory compliance in the State of Qatar.

Key job accountabilities

  • Reports to project manager (dredging).
  • Ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and permits applicable to marine and offshore activities.
  • Support the development and implementation of Environmental Management Plans (EMP), Marine Protection Plans, SHES procedures and promote environmental awareness and SHES culture across project teams and contractors.
  • Monitor offshore and nearshore activities (e.g. dredging, marine works, installation) to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Conduct environmental risk assessments and support mitigation planning for project activities.
  • Interface with regulatory authorities and support permitting processes and environmental approvals.
  • Review and approve contractor environmental documentation, method statements, and risk assessments.
  • Monitor environmental KPIs and ensure proper reporting of environmental performance.
  • Support environmental impact assessments (EIA) and environmental baseline studies.
  • Ensure implementation of mitigation measures related to marine biodiversity, water quality, and sediment control.
  • Participate in incident investigations related to environmental or marine impacts and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

Minimum requirements

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in sciences, safety, health, environment, security, or engineering.

Knowledge and/or experience:

  • 8 years’ experience in SHES in oil & gas industry.
  • Experience with oil & gas companies, EPC contractors, subcontractors, vendors or service companies involved in the oil and gas industry.
  • Strong knowledge of marine environmental management (dredging, coastal works, offshore installation).
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and permitting processes in the Middle East (Qatar).
  • Experience with EIA studies, environmental monitoring programs, and compliance audits.
  • Knowledge of international standards and guidelines (e.g. IFC, ISO 14001, MARPOL).
  • Experience in contractor supervision and offshore project execution.

Technical and business skills:

  • Fluent in written and oral English.
  • Strong understanding of marine ecosystems and environmental protection measures.
  • Knowledge of SHES management systems and regulatory frameworks.
  • Analytical and risk assessment capabilities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
