Summary

Assists senior shipbrokers with chartering, broking, and market analysis in the maritime industry, coordinating vessel and cargo opportunities while building stakeholder relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior shipbrokers in the chartering and broking process from initial enquiry through to fixture.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with shipowners, charterers, traders, and other industry stakeholders.
  • Monitor and analyse freight markets, vessel positions, cargo movements, and market trends.
  • Source and circulate vessel and cargo opportunities to relevant clients.
  • Assist with negotiating freight rates, charter party terms, and commercial conditions under the guidance of senior brokers.
  • Coordinate with clients and counterparties to facilitate smooth execution of fixtures.
  • Maintain accurate records of market information, fixtures, cargoes, vessels, and client activity.
  • Prepare market reports, rate assessments, and other commercial updates.
  • Conduct research on shipping routes, vessel availability, port conditions, and commodity flows.
  • Support senior brokers in developing new business and identifying potential clients.
  • Build a strong network within the shipping and maritime industry.
  • Assist with post-fixture coordination and liaise with operations and relevant internal teams where required.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Business, Economics, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 0–3 years of experience in shipbroking, chartering, shipping operations, commercial shipping, or a related maritime role.
  • Fresh graduates with strong interest in the shipping industry may be considered.
  • Good understanding of the shipping industry and commercial shipping concepts.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commercially minded with a proactive and entrepreneurial approach.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and target-driven environment.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Strong interest in developing a long-term career in shipbroking and chartering.
