Shipper / Allocator

Heidelberg Materials is looking for a highly organised and customer-focused Shipper / Allocator to join our team in Syston. This is a fast-paced, operational role where you will play a vital part in ensuring customer orders are delivered safely, efficiently, and on time while maximising fleet utilisation and supporting our operational performance.
Working closely with customers, plant teams, commercial colleagues, and haulage partners, you'll be at the centre of daily logistics planning and delivery execution. What You'll Be Doing
As a Shipper, you will take ownership of a cluster of plants, managing customer orders and transport resources to deliver outstanding service while achieving key business objectives around Volume, On-Time Delivery (OTD), and Vehicle Utilisation.
Key responsibilities include:
Managing customer orders and daily workload planning across a designated plant cluster
Coordinating company fleet, franchise operators, and external hauliers to meet customer demand
Proactively managing the order book to maximise efficiency and service performance
Working closely with commercial and operational teams to resolve issues and support customer requirements
Communicating effectively with customers regarding delivery schedules, delays, and alternative solutions
Managing vehicle movements and transport resources in response to operational challenges
Monitoring haulage performance, compliance, fleet utilisation, and empty mileage
Supporting business continuity during plant shutdowns, breakdowns, and operational disruptions
Developing strong relationships with key customers and anticipating future demand
Maintaining accurate records and completing all associated administration within agreed deadlines
Identifying opportunities to improve service, reduce costs, and enhance operational performance
What We're Looking For
We're seeking someone who can balance excellent customer service with strong logistical planning skills.
You'll ideally have:
Experience within transport, logistics, distribution, planning, or customer service environments
Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
The ability to make effective decisions in a fast-moving operational setting
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
A proactive and solutions-focused approach
Strong attention to detail and administrative accuracy
Confidence working with multiple systems and managing competing priorities
A collaborative mindset and willingness to support colleagues across the wider team
