A Shipping Analyst with a programming background combines deep market understanding with advanced data-driven capabilities to enhance decision-making and performance. This role focuses on analyzing freight markets, vessel supply and demand dynamics, and trade flows, while leveraging programming skills to build models, automate processes, and extract insights from large datasets.

With expertise in tools such as Python, SQL, and data visualization platforms, the analyst develops pricing models, voyage optimization tools, and risk assessment frameworks. This enables more accurate forecasting, improved chartering strategies, and better alignment between cargo exposure and fleet positioning.

By integrating traditional shipping knowledge with quantitative analysis, the role supports commercial teams in identifying arbitrage opportunities, evaluating asset values, and managing market volatility. Additionally, the analyst contributes to building scalable systems and dashboards that improve transparency, efficiency, and strategic planning across the organization.

Job Requirements – Shipping Analyst (1–2 Years Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree or Similar
  • 1–2 years of experience in shipping, commodities, trading, or a data/analytics-related role (internships included).
  • Basic understanding of dry bulk shipping markets, including vessel classes (Handy, Ultramax, Kamsarmax, etc.), trade routes, and freight dynamics.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and/or SQL, with the ability to manipulate and analyze large datasets.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar) and strong Excel skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain simple analytical models for pricing, forecasting, and performance tracking.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a structured approach to tasks.
  • Interest in combining commercial shipping knowledge with quantitative and data-driven methodologies.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to present insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, market-driven environment.
