Why Somafina?
Somafina is a growing co-manufacturer of vitamins and supplements in Utah, and business is thriving as we attract larger, more established customers. It's a fast-paced environment with real momentum — which means real opportunities for growth. If you're ready to take on more and grow with us, we'd love to have you on the team.
Position Description
The Shipping and Receiving Manager owns every pallet that enters and leaves our Lindon facility. Our plant runs 24/7 on high-speed stick pack and gummy lines for some of the biggest brands in the industry, and every missed delivery, mis-shipment, or receiving error costs us money and our customers' trust.
The top priority of this role is closing work orders every day. The goal is simple: each morning, every work order completed in the system is closed and ready for invoicing.
We are looking for a leader who is relentlessly on top of the details, communicates early and clearly, and sees problems coming before they reach the dock. The ideal candidate builds checks that catch errors at the source, holds the team to a high standard, and owns the fix when something goes wrong.
Essential Responsibilities
Daily Work Order Close-Out (Top Priority)
- Closes out every completed work order in the system each day, so all completed work is ready for invoicing first thing every morning.
- Confirms that finished goods, shipments, and material transactions are recorded accurately before each work order is closed.
- Resolves the same day any work order that cannot be closed (missing transactions, count discrepancies, or paperwork), working with Production, Quality, Inventory, and Accounting.
- Reports work orders closed, still open, and the reason for each open item to leadership and Accounting every morning.
Receiving & Inbound Control
- Directs all receiving, checking every delivery against the purchase order, packing list, and certificate of analysis before it is accepted.
- Ensures incoming materials are labeled, recorded the same day, and held in quarantine until Quality releases them.
- Catches short, damaged, or nonconforming shipments at the dock and drives vendor claims to resolution.
- Alerts Planning and Production early when a late or short delivery threatens a production run.
Shipping & Outbound Accuracy
- Ensures every customer order ships complete, correctly labeled, with the right lots and documentation, on the committed date.
- Builds and enforces verification steps (pick, lot, count, and load checks) that catch errors before a truck leaves.
- Manages carriers and freight costs, audits freight invoices, and keeps Customer Service informed so customers hear about issues from us first.
Problem Prevention & Cost Control
- Investigates every shipping or receiving error, finds the root cause, and puts corrective actions in place that stick.
- Reduces avoidable costs, including damaged goods, mis-shipments, expedited freight, detention fees, and write-offs.
- Reports key metrics to leadership weekly, with clear explanations of misses and the plan to fix them.
Team Leadership & Compliance
- Leads, schedules, trains, and coaches shipping and receiving staff across shifts; sets clear expectations and holds the team accountable.
- Writes and maintains shipping and receiving SOPs, and ensures every team member is trained before working independently.
- Ensures shipping and receiving comply with cGMP (21 CFR Part 111), lot traceability, sanitary transportation, and OSHA safety requirements; supports customer and regulatory audits.
Additional Responsibilities
- Partners closely with Purchasing, Planning, Production, Quality, Customer Service, and Accounting to keep material flowing and commitments met.
- Supports physical inventories, cycle counts, and off-shift or weekend operations as needed; performs other duties as requested by leadership.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain, logistics, business, or related field preferred; or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of shipping, receiving, or warehouse experience, including at least 3 years leading a team.
Competencies / Skill Qualifications
- Experience closing work orders and reconciling transactions in an ERP system, with the discipline to keep them current every day.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong problem-solving; a track record of reducing errors, damage, and avoidable costs through root cause and corrective action.
- Proactive, clear communicator who keeps leadership and partner teams informed before issues escalate.
- Experience in an FDA-regulated environment (dietary supplements, food, or pharmaceutical) strongly preferred; working knowledge of cGMP and lot traceability.
- Experience managing carriers, freight costs, and LTL, FTL, and parcel shipments.
- Proficiency with ERP or WMS systems and Microsoft Excel; comfortable building and using performance reports.
- English proficiency required; bilingual English/Spanish a plus. Forklift certified or able to certify within 30 days.
Physical Requirements
- Must be comfortable spending extended time on the dock and warehouse floor, around moving equipment and racking.
- Must lift up to 50 lbs occasionally, operate powered equipment, and work off-shift or weekend hours as needed.
