SHIPPING COMPANY LEGAL / CLAIMS COUNSEL

  • Provide legal advice on shipping, maritime, commercial, and corporate matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate charter parties, bills of lading, ship management agreements, sale and purchase agreements, and other commercial contracts.
  • Handle claims and disputes related to cargo, collisions, marine insurance, demurrage, and arbitration/litigation.
  • Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations, sanctions, trade compliance, and company policies.
  • Liaise with external law firms, P&I Clubs, insurers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Support risk management and corporate governance initiatives.
  • Conduct legal research and provide training to internal stakeholders.
  • Assist management in strategic projects, mergers, acquisitions, and financing transactions when required.

Requirements:

  • Qualified lawyer/admitted to practice in a relevant jurisdiction preferred.
  • 3–8 years of legal experience in shipping, maritime law, international trade, or commercial law.
  • Experience working in a shipping company, maritime law firm, logistics company, or related industry is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of maritime conventions, shipping regulations, and international trade practices.
  • Familiarity with arbitration rules such as LMAA, SIAC, or HKIAC is an advantage.
  • Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced international environment.
  • Knowledge of marine insurance and claims handling.
  • Experience with sanctions compliance and cross-border transactions.
  • Commercial mindset with strong business partnering capability.
