Shipping Specialist

About the Role

At States Industries, our Shipping Specialists are responsible for making sure finished products leave our facility safely, accurately, and on time.

This is a hands-on logistics and warehouse role that involves loading outbound finished goods, unloading inbound and returned product, maintaining finished goods inventory, and completing the final visual inspection before product leaves our facility.

Strong forklift experience is required for this position. This role spends a significant portion of the shift operating a forklift in a busy manufacturing and warehouse environment, including around pedestrian traffic, production areas, trucks, trailers, and finished goods.

Because this role is one of the final checkpoints before our products reach the customer, safe equipment operation, attention to detail, organization, and a strong sense of urgency are critical.

Previous shipping, warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing experience is strongly preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.

What You’ll Do

As a Shipping Specialist, you will:

  • Safely and efficiently operate a forklift throughout the majority of the shift.
  • Operate forklifts in high-traffic areas, around production work centers, pedestrian walkways, trucks, trailers, and finished product.
  • Load finished goods onto flatbeds, vans, intermodal containers, common carriers, and rail boxcars.
  • Stage product accurately and efficiently for outbound shipments.
  • Perform final visual inspections of finished goods before shipment.
  • Verify loads for accuracy and help ensure products reach customers safely and in good condition.
  • Receive and unload inbound and returned products, verifying shipment paperwork before unloading.
  • Maintain accurate finished goods inventory and participate in cycle counts and physical inventories.
  • Work closely with the Logistics Coordinator to ensure finished goods are properly labeled and inventory discrepancies are addressed promptly.
  • Operate a yard tractor to safely move loaded and unloaded trailers, containers, and vans to and from loading areas.
  • Complete required pre-shift inspections, forklift inspections, and yard reports.
  • Use air guns, power tools, and hand tools to properly secure outbound loads.
  • Communicate professionally with drivers and carriers and provide required shipping documentation.
  • Complete system transactions and shipping paperwork, including packing slips, bills of lading, and carrier release communications.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized warehouse.
  • Follow established stacking, storage, safety, and loading requirements.
  • Work independently while staying focused on priorities and changing daily demands.
  • Participate in safety, 5S, Kaizen, and other continuous improvement efforts.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support the Logistics and Operations teams.
