Shipping Support Specialist
The purpose of the Shipping Support Specialist is to support the overall success of the Shipping department by positioning various equipment and assisting in the office.
- Shipping and Yard Operations:
- Operate the yard goat safely and efficiently to support daily shipping and logistics activities.
- Move containers, trailers, and equipment to and from loading docks and designated staging areas.
- Haul refeed flats and other materials as required.
- Install tire chains and operate equipment safely during winter weather conditions.
- Perform routine inspections, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on the yard goat and related equipment.
- Inventory and Computer Systems:
- Utilize inventory management systems including Cloud Inventory and JDE to locate, track, and verify product inventory.
- Reserve inventory for customer orders and shipping requirements.
- Generate Bills of Lading (BOLs), shipping documentation, and customer paperwork.
- Create inventory reports and inventory lists to support cycle counts and audits.
- Generate and print product labels and shipping labels.
- Review shipment photos and documentation to verify customer orders are loaded accurately.
- Communicate effectively through email and other company systems.
- Warehouse and Dock Support:
- Support dock operations to ensure efficient loading and shipment of customer orders.
- Retag bulk bags using tagging equipment and rollers as required.
- Perform shrouding and wrapping of finished products.
- Operate portable stretch-wrapping equipment.
- Assist with pallet stacking, restacking, and load preparation activities.
- Safely operate forklifts, including warehouse forklifts and extended-fork equipment used for unloading refeed materials.
- Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Administrative and Office Support:
- Maintain inventory of office and shipping supplies, including paper, labels, ink, brooms, nails, water, seals, and other consumables.
- Deliver pick lists and shipping documentation to dock personnel.
- Assist with customer check-in procedures and provide support to office personnel as needed.
- Plant and Customer Awareness:
- Maintain awareness of customer arrivals and departures throughout the facility.
- Ensure customers are directed to the correct loading dock and staging area.
- Coordinate with shipping personnel to confirm customer loading activities are completed efficiently.
- Support communication between production, shipping, warehouse, and customer service teams to ensure smooth operations.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Operate the water truck when required to support dust control and site conditions.
- Follow all safety procedures, environmental requirements, and company policies.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, housekeeping efforts, and operational excellence programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support plant operations
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Computer skills – experience with JDE or other ERP systems preferred. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
- Previous experience in shipping, warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, mining, or industrial operations preferred.
- Valid forklift certification or ability to obtain certification
- Experience operating yard equipment, tractors, yard goats, or similar mobile equipment preferred.
- The ability to work with a high degree of independence.
- The ability to communicate clearly and effectively (written and verbal).
- The ability to work in a fast paced environment (multi-tasking skills a must).
