Shop Manager/Driver

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Equipment and Vehicle Management

  • Oversee maintenance and repair of all company vehicles, trailers, small engines, and landscape equipment.

  • Schedule preventative maintenance and track service intervals.

  • Diagnose mechanical issues and perform or coordinate repairs with vendors.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and inspection records.

Inventory and Supply Management

  • Manage inventory of tools, parts, materials, and consumables.

  • Order and restock supplies as needed while controlling costs.

  • Implement and maintain a tool/equipment tracking system to reduce loss and ensure accountability.

  • Coordinate with Project Managers and Field Supervisors to prepare daily/weekly equipment needs.

Shop and Yard Operations

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop and yard environment.

  • Oversee loading/unloading and staging of materials and equipment.

  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and DOT regulations.

  • Manage waste disposal, recycling, and storage of hazardous materials.

Team Leadership and Communication

  • Supervise shop assistants, mechanics, or yard staff.

  • Train employees on proper equipment use, maintenance, and safety.

  • Communicate effectively with field teams and management regarding equipment

  • availability and repair status.

  • Participate in budget planning for equipment purchases and shop improvements.

Driver Responsibilities

  • Safely operate light to heavy-duty equipment on a daily basis.
  • Distribute inventory from the main yard as needed to job sites.
  • Safely unload materials from delivery trucks and distribute them properly throughout the assigned yard areas.
  • Safely load and unload equipment on and off trailers.
  • Safely load and unload bulk and palletized materials into and out of dump trucks with a skid steer.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of small engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.

  • Proficient with basic computer software (MS Office, Fleet Management or CMMS systems).

  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.

  • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or technical degree preferred).

  • 3–5 years of experience in equipment management, fleet maintenance, or similar role

  • (landscape or construction industry preferred).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Team members must be able to perform the following tasks during a typical 8+ hour day.

SEDENTARY WORK: Lifting up to 10#; occasionally lifting or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers, and small tools. Work essentially involves sitting and is considered sedentary if only a small amount of walking and standing is necessary to carry out duties.

LIGHT WORK: Lifting up to 20#, frequently lifting or carrying objects up to 10#. Work is classified light if it requires walking or standing to a significant degree (regardless of weight lifted) or involves sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls.

LIGHT MEDIUM WORK: Lifting up to 30#; frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 20#.

MEDIUM WORK: Lifting up to 50#; frequent lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 25#.

LIGHT-HEAVY WORK: Lifting up to 80#; frequent lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 45#.

HEAVY WORK: Lifting up to 100#; frequent lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 80#.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time exempt position. Specific schedules will be determined based on the weather and general needs of the business.

  • Experience operating light to heavy duty equipment is required.

  • Have general knowledge of basic landscape materials

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Must be at least 18 years old

  • Minimum of three year’s experience operating light to heavy duty machinery is required

  • Valid commerial driver’s license and clean driving record is preferred
