The Opportunity

OCU is delivering critical transmission infrastructure projects that support the reliability and future development of the UK's power network. As a Site Manager, you'll take ownership of on-site delivery, leading teams and subcontractors to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll play a key part in driving programme performance, maintaining strong safety and quality standards, and building effective relationships across project teams. If you're looking to make an impact on nationally significant infrastructure projects while developing your career within a growing business, this could be the opportunity for you.

  • Lead day-to-day site operations, coordinating resources and subcontractors to achieve project objectives.
  • Drive safety, quality, and operational performance across all construction activities.
  • Monitor project programmes and proactively resolve issues that may impact delivery.
  • Review and implement RAMS, permits, and safe systems of work before activities commence.
  • Conduct site inspections, SHEQ audits, and compliance reviews to maintain exceptional standards.
  • Manage subcontractor performance, ensuring works are delivered safely, compliantly, and to specification.
  • Coordinate construction activities with project teams, engineers, and stakeholders to support successful delivery.
  • Maintain accurate site records, inspections, and project documentation throughout the construction lifecycle.

Essential

  • Proven experience managing construction activities within power, utilities, infrastructure, or engineering projects.
  • National Grid project experience and a good understanding of associated processes and standards.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, health and safety legislation, and CDM requirements.
  • Experience managing subcontractors, site teams, and multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions in a fast-paced site environment.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • SMSTS, IOSH, Temporary Works Coordinator, HSG47, and First Aid qualifications.
  • Bonus if you hold National Grid Competent Person authorisation.
  • It would be great if you've worked on transmission or substation construction projects.
  • It would be great if you have experience managing inspection and test plans, permitting processes, and quality assurance activities.
  • Knowledge of temporary works, cable installation, civils, or substation build projects would be advantageous.
