The Opportunity
OCU is delivering critical transmission infrastructure projects that support the reliability and future development of the UK's power network. As a Site Manager, you'll take ownership of on-site delivery, leading teams and subcontractors to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll play a key part in driving programme performance, maintaining strong safety and quality standards, and building effective relationships across project teams. - Lead day-to-day site operations, coordinating resources and subcontractors to achieve project objectives.
- Drive safety, quality, and operational performance across all construction activities.
- Monitor project programmes and proactively resolve issues that may impact delivery.
- Review and implement RAMS, permits, and safe systems of work before activities commence.
- Conduct site inspections, SHEQ audits, and compliance reviews to maintain exceptional standards.
- Manage subcontractor performance, ensuring works are delivered safely, compliantly, and to specification.
- Coordinate construction activities with project teams, engineers, and stakeholders to support successful delivery.
- Maintain accurate site records, inspections, and project documentation throughout the construction lifecycle.
Essential
- Proven experience managing construction activities within power, utilities, infrastructure, or engineering projects.
- National Grid project experience and a good understanding of associated processes and standards.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, health and safety legislation, and CDM requirements.
- Experience managing subcontractors, site teams, and multiple workstreams simultaneously.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and make informed decisions in a fast-paced site environment.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- SMSTS, IOSH, Temporary Works Coordinator, HSG47, and First Aid qualifications.
- Bonus if you hold National Grid Competent Person authorisation.
- It would be great if you've worked on transmission or substation construction projects.
- It would be great if you have experience managing inspection and test plans, permitting processes, and quality assurance activities.
- Knowledge of temporary works, cable installation, civils, or substation build projects would be advantageous.
