Site Reliability / DevOps Engineer (Visa Supported)

Summary

Design and operate AWS-based infrastructure for a high-throughput European energy trading platform, ensuring low-latency, high-availability systems with Kubernetes, Terraform, and observability tools.

Overview

Site Reliability / DevOps Engineer (Visa Supported) – Talcom Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands

Location: Amsterdam, The Netherlands (Hybrid)

Job Type: Full Time

Etpa (formerly Energy Trading Platform Amsterdam) is an independent energy trading venue in the Netherlands. It was originally launched within TenneT to support real-time grid balancing and has since evolved into a fully independent platform, backed by the ABN AMRO Impact Fund and Z-ventures. With private equity investment, Etpa is now entering a phase of European expansion.

Etpa enables intraday electricity trading across Europe, allowing members to trade in 15-minute intervals. The platform supports a large number of time-critical transactions and requires a highly reliable technical infrastructure.

Your Role

You will ensure the platform can process thousands of bulk transactions per second with high availability and low latency. Working with developers (Java, React) and infrastructure engineers, you will design and operate AWS-based systems that are secure, observable, and resilient.

Your focus will include infrastructure automation, monitoring, incident response, and improving the reliability of existing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and manage AWS infrastructure with Terraform for high throughput and low latency
  • Operate and scale Kubernetes clusters with a focus on resilience and fault tolerance
  • Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, Docker, and ArgoCD
  • Implement observability practices with Prometheus, Grafana, and Loki
  • Define and monitor SLOs and SLIs to measure and improve reliability
  • Lead incident response, post-mortems, and disaster recovery exercises
  • Apply security and compliance standards across infrastructure and pipelines

Requirements

  • At least one role in a Western, European, or Dutch working environment
  • Ideally one position held for 30+ months, showing long-term ownership of technical decisions
  • Preferably experience in a product company rather than consultancy
  • Clear examples of work on high-load or high-availability systems
  • Background in Fintech, Energy, or Telecom is a strong plus
  • Demonstrated experience handling transactions at scale
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience, ideally 7+ years
  • Solid, recent AWS expertise (not reskilling from Azure/GCP, not light exposure)
  • Strong in multiple of the following: Kubernetes, AWS, high-load/high-availability, CI/CD
  • Proven ability to take existing infrastructure and improve it significantly

Offer / Benefits

  • Gross annual salary: €80.000 – €90.000 (including 8% holiday allowance)
  • Visa sponsorship and relocation support for international candidates (within Europe/Turkey)
  • Hybrid work model: 2–3 days per week in-office (Amsterdam Sloterdijk)
  • 25 vacation days
  • Pension plan
  • Direct responsibility for business-critical systems in a European energy trading platform
