Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO)
USACE Wastewater Treatment Construction | Havertown, PA
Full-Time | Day Shift | 7:00 AM–3:00 PM | 40 Hours/Week
Join CMI as a Site Safety & Health Officer
Compliance Management International (CMI) is seeking an experienced Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to support a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) wastewater treatment construction project in Havertown, PA.
We’re looking for a hands-on construction safety professional with strong field leadership skills and experience managing safety on active construction sites. The SSHO will work closely with project management, supervisors, subcontractors, and craft personnel to maintain compliance with USACE EM 385-1-1, OSHA requirements, and the project Accident Prevention Plan (APP).
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, 40 hours per week.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as the project’s designated Site Safety & Health Officer
- Implement and enforce the project Accident Prevention Plan (APP)
- Ensure compliance with USACE EM 385-1-1, OSHA regulations, and project safety requirements
- Perform daily site safety inspections and document findings
- Identify hazards and work with project teams to implement corrective actions
- Review and support Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) before work begins
- Conduct safety meetings, orientations, and toolbox talks
- Monitor subcontractor safety performance and high-risk construction activities
- Verify employee training, certifications, and required safety documentation
- Support incident, near-miss, and hazard investigations
- Maintain required USACE safety records, reports, and documentation
- Coordinate with project leadership to promote a strong, proactive safety culture
Required Qualifications
Candidates must meet the project’s SSHO requirements, including:
- Minimum 5 years of continuous construction safety experience supervising or managing safety programs for general construction.
- 5 years of documented continuing safety education/training. OSHA 30-Hour and First Aid/CPR training do not count toward this requirement.
- Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction training with documentation.
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification with documentation of a current 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher.
- EM 385-1-1 training and/or experience highly preferred.
- Previous USACE, federal, or government construction experience preferred.
- Experience with wastewater, water treatment, civil, utility, or heavy construction preferred.
