Summary
Seasonal EMT/medical transport driver who safely ferries injured skiers from mountain patrol to the hospital’s Emergency Department, using radio coordination and clinical judgment to triage and transport patients based on age and condition.

In this seasonal position (October - April) you will have the opportunity to embrace the winter wonderland of Vail, Colorado with world-class skiing/snowboarding and the vibrant atmosphere of a top-notch hospital with a strong orthopedic case load. Our seasonal staff are eligible for a season completion bonus, wellness reimbursement credit and 403(b) retirement contribution eligibility.
Assumes responsibility for the safe transport of injured or ill skiers from the local ski areas to the Emergency Department or Emergency Services Clinic. Provides care for all patient types based on age specific criteria.
- Maintains radio and cell phone communication with Ski Patrol throughout shift. Coordinates with Ski Patrol for safe patient hand off.
- Follows criteria for patient types who may be transported via skier transport versus ambulance transport. Safely transports appropriate patients to the Emergency Department.
- Exhibits safe driving skills and reports any Skier Transport vehicle issues in a timely manner. Exhibits proper care of vehicles and equipment.
- Demonstrates clinical knowledge in all patient types and age groups to meet patient care needs/outcomes within the practice. Displays cultural competency and ability to work with diverse patient populations.
- Maintains diagnostic and medication logs as required by policy. Documents patient care services accurately in patient and department records.
- Protects patients and employees by assisting in maintaining a clean, safe working environment, and adhering to infection control policies and protocols.
- Role models the principles of a Just Culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.
- One year of experience as a care tech or EMT preferred.
- Valid, unrestricted driver's license required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) by the American Heart Association required.
And, one of the following is required:
- Certification in the state of Colorado as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Certification in the state of Colorado as a Paramedic
- Wilderness First Responder Certification
- Outdoor Emergency Care Certification by the National Ski Patrol
- Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
