Nature of Work

This is responsible technical and administrative work assisting with online communication and social media marketing efforts for the City of Pigeon Forge Tourism Department. The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for developing, managing, and executing the City’s social media strategy across official digital platforms. This position serves as a key voice of the City across all platforms. The ideal candidate is an excellent writer and storyteller to clear and engaging content, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Job performance is evaluated by the Digital Communications Manager through review of the effectiveness of social media and online marketing trends and methods, ability to effectively communicate with the Department of Tourism’s target audience, and strong interpersonal and decision-making skills.

  • Develop and manage the City’s social media strategy and editorial calendar.
  • Plan and schedule social media using the Later platform.
  • Create, write, edit, schedule, and publish engaging content for platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, and emerging platforms.
  • Translate City policies, programs, services, announcements, and public information into engaging content.
  • Develop original graphics, short-form videos, reels, stories, photography, and other multimedia content.
  • Assist Digital Communications Manager with influencer, creator, and brand-advocacy programs.
  • Monitor social media channels and respond to all messages and comments.
  • Maintain a consistent, professional, accurate, and welcoming voice across all City social media accounts.
  • Coordinate with City departments to identify news, announcements, events, community stories, and other content opportunities.
  • Monitor social media trends.
  • Ensure social media content follows applicable City policies, public records requirements, accessibility standards, and communications guidelines.
  • Coordinate with the City’s communications, public information, marketing, and/or public affairs teams as needed.
  • Photograph and document City events, meetings, community activities, and other public-facing activities.
  • Maintain organized records of social media content and digital assets.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Necessary Requirements of Work

High School Diploma and or equivalent GED required. Two-year college degree in Communications, Marketing, Tourism preferred. Minimum of 2 years’ equivalent experience in the tourism field or related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered. Professional experience managing social media and digital communications; Demonstrated experience creating content for multiple social media platforms; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Strong understanding of social media strategy, content development, and digital engagement; Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment; Experience with social media scheduling, analytics, graphic design, photography, and/or video production. or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience to provide the knowledge, abilities and skills:

  • Knowledge with platforms such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Later, Meta Business Suite, or comparable tools.
  • Knowledge with photography, video editing, motion graphics, or livestreaming.
  • Knowledge of basic administrative and clerical skills including word processing, spreadsheet applications, transmitting and receiving emails, social media etc.
  • Skill in storytelling and copy writing skills.
  • Strong knowledge of current social media platforms and digital communications trends.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize personal time and activities and meet established deadlines and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment when responding to public comments and sensitive issues.
  • Ability to remain professional and impartial when communicating on behalf of the City.
  • Strong visual communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all departments, employees, community organizations, media representatives, and members of the public.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, or during emergency situations when required.
  • Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information appropriately.
  • Commitment to accuracy, transparency, accessibility, and excellent customer service.

Necessary Special Requirements

· Possession of a valid Tennessee Driver’s license and the ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability rates.

Physical Requirements

  • This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Work requires stooping, reaching, grasping, and repetitive motions
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels
  • Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities
