Social Media Intern

PURPOSE:

Journey Center for Safety and Healing’s Social Media Intern will play a hands-on role in creating, scheduling, and analyzing content that supports Journey’s mission. Also provides support to the Development Department with other projects as needed.

Unpaid Internship 10 – 20 hours a week

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develop posts, series, and visuals that align with our brand and campaign goals
  2. Publish content across all social channels and schedule posts using Hootesuite
  3. Maintain content calendars, campaign trackers, and shared documentation to keep the team organized and aligned
  4. Monitor engagement, suggest new ideas, track metrics, and learn how to use data to improve performance
  5. Assist with email content, including drafting copy, selecting visual assets, building campaigns, and scheduling through email marketing tools
  6. Support graphic design needs
  7. Support video production and photo shoots
  8. Research current social trends across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and emerging platforms, and pitch content ideas
  9. Support additional projects as needed

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Respect, understand, and promote Journey Center’s mission, vision, values, and goals
  2. Complete agency orientation and training to meet job requirements
  3. Assumes other responsibilities and duties as directed or assigned

Requirements

  1. Experience with social media management (coursework, personal projects, or professional experience all accepted)
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to clarity, tone, and detail
  3. Enthusiastic about storytelling, branding, and nonprofit advocacy
  4. Ability to collaborate effectively
  5. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  6. Comfortable learning new digital tools (Hootesuite, email platforms, editing software).
  7. Competency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Power Point
  8. A proactive mindset with a willingness to learn, experiment, and take on new responsibilities
  9. Flexibility and adaptability to shifting priorities, timelines, and creative requests
  10. Basic experience with design or editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar) is a bonus but not required
  11. Ability to regularly work in the office and attend in-person meetings
  12. Reliable transportation and a valid Ohio driver’s license is preferred

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

  1. Ability to operate a computer and keyboard
  2. Ability to perform job responsibilities in a facility with multiple levels
  3. Communicate with others in person, electronically, or by phone on a consistent basis
  4. Regular and predictable attendance
