Social Media Manager

Position Summary

The Social Media Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and growth of Enterprise State Community College's social media presence, including content planning, creation, scheduling, publishing, account monitoring, engagement, and performance tracking. This position ensures that College social media communications are timely, engaging, accurate, consistent, and representative of programs, activities, and student experiences across all ESCC campuses and locations.

The Social Media Manager will also serve as an active member of the Marketing/Public Relations Department and supports the broader communications and promotional needs of the College. In addition to primary responsibility for social media, this position assists with Marketing/Public Relations projects and operations, including Print Shop needs, event coverage through photography and videography, content collection, and other departmental priorities as needed.

The position also provides coordination and supervision of the College's Digital Ambassadors and assists with oversight of College-affiliated social media accounts.

The successful candidate will be creative, organized, proactive, adaptable, and comfortable managing the daily demands of an active social media presence while contributing to the broader work of a fast-paced Marketing/Public Relations Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Social Media Management & Content Creation

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the College's official social media accounts.
  • Plan, create, schedule, publish, and manage social media content supporting College priorities, programs, events, student life, recruitment, and community engagement.
  • Develop and maintain a social media content calendar aligned with College events, academic dates, campaigns, and departmental priorities.
  • Identify opportunities for timely, relevant, engaging, and student-centered content.
  • Create platform-appropriate graphics and digital content using Canva while following established College brand standards.
  • Write clear, engaging, accurate, and audience-appropriate social media copy.
  • Use Meta Business Suite and other applicable platform tools to schedule and publish content, monitor account activity, and review performance.
  • Monitor comments, messages, mentions, and other activity across College social media platforms and respond to or appropriately route inquiries.
  • Maintain awareness of current social media trends, platform changes, and emerging content formats and recommend appropriate opportunities for the College.
  • Review social media analytics and performance data to identify trends and help guide future content decisions.


Brand & Social Media Standards

  • Maintain a consistent College voice and visual presence across official social media platforms.
  • Ensure social media content follows established College brand standards.
  • Assist College departments and employees with appropriate use of the College brand on social media.
  • Identify outdated, inactive, inconsistent, or potentially problematic College-affiliated social media activity and communicate concerns to Marketing/Public Relations leadership.

Digital Ambassador Management

  • Provide supervision and direction for the College's student Digital Ambassadors.
  • Review ambassador-created content for quality, accuracy, appropriateness, and brand consistency.
  • Track ambassador participation and completion of required responsibilities.
  • Incorporate Digital Ambassador content into the College's overall social media calendar and strategy.

Marketing/Public Relations Department Support

  • Serve as an active member of the Marketing/Public Relations team and assist with departmental projects, initiatives, and operational needs in addition to primary social media responsibilities.
  • Provide support for College Print Shop operations and production needs as assigned.
  • Assist with coverage of College events, programs, activities, and special initiatives across College campuses and locations.
  • Capture photography and video at College events and activities for use in social media, marketing, public relations, and other College communications.
  • Collaborate with Marketing/Public Relations staff on campaigns, projects, event promotion, content development, and other College communications needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the Marketing/Public Relations Department and College communications needs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong written communication, proofreading, and social media copywriting skills.
  • Working knowledge of major social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Understanding of social media engagement, audience development, platform best practices, and social media analytics.
  • Ability to use social media performance data to identify trends and inform future content decisions.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment when creating, reviewing, scheduling, and publishing public-facing content.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with students, faculty, staff, and members of the Marketing/Public Relations team.
  • Ability and willingness to travel between College campuses and locations as needed for content development, event coverage, meetings, and other assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends when necessary for College events, activities, or timely social media coverage.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with students, employees, community members, and other individuals for content development and College communications.
  • Ability to proactively identify stories, activities, programs, and individuals that can be developed into effective College content.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, assignments, deadlines, and competing priorities.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum (2) years of experience in social media management, marketing, communications, public relations, or a related role.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts for an organization, business, nonprofit, educational institution, or similar organization.
  • Demonstrated experience planning, creating, scheduling, publishing, and managing social media content, including maintaining content calendars and consistent posting schedules.
  • Experience creating platform-appropriate content for multiple social media platforms.
  • Working proficiency with Meta Business Suite, including managing connected accounts, scheduling and publishing content, monitoring account activity, and reviewing platform insights and analytics.
  • Proficiency with Canva, including Canva Team Management, templates, brand assets, permissions, and shared content. Proficiency with Canva for social media content creation.
  • Experience creating and editing short-form video content for social media using CapCut, iMovie, Canva, native platform editing tools, or comparable video editing software.
  • Experience with Canva Team Management, including managing team members, templates, brand assets, permissions, and shared content.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or coordinating students, interns, employees, or volunteers.
  • Experience with social media account governance or oversight in an organization with multiple affiliated accounts.
  • Experience with digital photography and/or videography.
  • Experience using interchangeable-lens digital cameras, including Sony, Canon, or comparable camera systems.
  • Experience working in higher education, education, nonprofit, public-sector, or community-focused communications.

SALARY:

Salary Schedule C3 C $48,356-$79,611 based upon the Alabama Community College System Salary Schedule to be determined by the applicant’s education and years of applicable experience. Applicant acknowledges that if selected for the position that applicant’s placement on the applicable salary schedule will be dependent upon the verified information provided. *this is an institutionally funded position*
