About the ED Mental Health & AOD Response at Monash Health (EMAAP- Emergency Mental Health, AOD, Allied, Peer Team)

The MMC Emergency Department has an inter professional team which brings together clinicians from mental health, alcohol and other drug (AOD), Social Work and Lived Experience to provide specialised and integrated care to patients presenting to the ED with high acuity mental health and AOD issues, and complex psychosocial needs. This service is called the Mental Health and AOD Response or EMAAP and is located within the emergency department. The team will provide a seven day a week, extended hours service as well as outreach community follow up and support for a 28-day period post patient discharge.

About The Role

Grade 3 Social Worker | 0.6 EFT | Monash Medical Centre | Ongoing, Part-Time

Ready to take your social work practice into a role where clinical expertise, creativity and genuine human connection can change the course of someone’s day—and sometimes their life?

Join the EMAAP Team at Monash Medical Centre, supporting people presenting to the Clayton Emergency Department with behavioural health concerns, complex psychosocial needs and situations that demand more than a ‘quick fix’. This is social work at its most dynamic: clinical, collaborative, fast-paced and deeply person-centred. Be the clinician who helps make the next step possible.

As a Grade 3 Social Worker, you’ll bring your experience, judgement and therapeutic skills to provide high-quality psychosocial care across the ED journey—and beyond. You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Provide senior clinical care to people experiencing behavioural health and complex psychosocial challenges.
  • Complete comprehensive psychosocial assessments, brief interventions and collaborative care planning to understand the whole person—not just the presenting crisis.
  • Provide short-term assertive outreach for up to 28 days post-discharge, helping people stay connected when continuity of care matters most.
  • Turn complex situations into practical pathways forward, reducing psychosocial stressors and supporting safe, timely discharge.
  • Build strong connections with community services, health providers and support networks, creating care that extends well beyond the ED.
  • Work with medical and nursing teams, EPS (Emergency Psychiatric Service) clinicians and peer workers, bringing the unique social work lens to complex clinical presentations.
  • Lead, educate and supervise, sharing your expertise and helping strengthen social work and interdisciplinary practice across the service.

This is an opportunity for an experienced senior social worker who enjoys clinical complexity, autonomy and collaboration—someone who can think critically, build rapport quickly, navigate systems confidently and advocate fiercely for the person in front of them. You’ll be part of a team that values recovery, partnership, innovation and the power of a strong therapeutic relationship. And because this is a senior clinical role, you won’t just be delivering care—you’ll help shape it.

Why you’ll love this role

Every day is different. Every person brings a different story. And your expertise can make a tangible difference. If you’re looking for a role where you can combine clinical social work, crisis intervention, assertive outreach, leadership and genuine multidisciplinary collaboration, this could be your next move. Bring your experience! Bring your curiosity! Bring your social work voice! Join the EMAAP Team at Monash Medical Centre and help people move from crisis toward their next chapter.

About You

You are an experienced Grade 3 Social Worker with strong clinical expertise within acute or emergency settings. You bring advanced skills in psychosocial assessments and are confident working with individuals experiencing complex presentations and psychosocial stressors.

You thrive in fast-paced environments and build strong, collaborative relationships with medical, nursing, mental health and peer support colleagues. Your practice is recovery-oriented and person-centred, balancing choice and self-determination with medico-legal requirements and duty of care. You are skilled in short-term, assertive outreach and care coordination, facilitating timely discharge and meaningful community linkages. As a senior clinician, you provide supervision, contribute to clinical leadership, and actively support a collaborative, high-performing team culture.

Qualification & licence requirements are as per the attached supportive documentation.
