Software Architect (AWS, NodeJS) - Remote, Latin America
Summary
Software Architect at a software consultancy: designs low-latency AWS service architectures, secure multi-tenant systems, and audit-ready data models using Node.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL/Aurora (RLS), while setting standards, mentoring engineers, and defending decisions in client reviews. Remote from Latin America with US business-hour overlap.
Requirements
- 8+ years professional software development experience, with 3+ years in an architecture-focused role
- Deep experience designing low-latency service architectures in AWS, including judgment about when distributed components (queues, caches, search projections) earn their place
- Experience designing to explicit latency budgets (p95/p99), including synchronous durable commits in hot paths
- Experience designing audit/evidence systems: append-only event logs, versioned or bitemporal fact models, and deterministic historical replay
- Experience designing fail-open/fail-closed/degraded-state semantics and outage postures
- Proven experience architecting secure multi-tenant environments, including tradeoff analysis (RLS vs. schema-per-tenant vs. database-per-tenant)
- Deep experience with PostgreSQL/AuroraDB and Row-Level Security (RLS) at a data-modeling and architecture level
- Expertise in designing and building scalable RESTful APIs
- Experience architecting SDK integrations to other services
- Strong expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript across the stack
- Experience building capacity models and cloud cost/performance projections (AWS Well-Architected Framework)
- Experience establishing technical standards, conducting architecture and code reviews, and mentoring engineering teams
- Experience producing architecture documentation, diagrams, and technical decision records (ADRs)
- Experience presenting and defending architecture decisions in client engineering and security reviews
- Experience working with AI coding assistants as part of daily development
- Substantial background architecting large, complex systems end-to-end
- Ability to overlap US business hours
