Software Developer

Abbey Capital is seeking a software engineer to join our development team in Dublin. The successful candidate will be writing code from week one, across C#, SQL, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript and React, on AWS (Lambda, S3, Aurora, Athena, Redshift), with Git and GitHub Actions.

There is a heavy data focus across the business, with information arriving from a wide range of external sources and counterparties. Much of the value we add comes from moving that data reliably, modelling it well and surfacing it where people need it. Building and maintaining those pipelines and data models is a core part of the role.

AI coding agents are part of normal engineering practice here. A significant part of what the team does is building the harnesses around them: the shared standards, context and tooling that let agents contribute across the whole software development lifecycle, from requirements and design through to testing, review and release. You will be expected to use them fluently, validate what you are using and to take responsibility for everything you ship. The successful candidate will act as a champion for AI, not just a user.

What we are looking for

The successful candidate should have a minimum of one to two years of commercial experience alongside a solid academic record.

  • Expertise in writing clean code.
  • Good communicator and team collaborator.
  • Curious about the domain as well as the technology.
  • Curiosity around systems and their purpose.

You already work with AI tools daily. Our focus is less about which ones, and more about the judgement you bring to them: framing the problem clearly, giving an agent the context it needs, reading what comes back with a critical eye, and knowing when to start again.

Minimum Requirements;

  • A 2.1 or higher in a Computer Science, Engineering, Maths or related numerate discipline, or equivalent demonstrable ability (MSc an advantage)
  • A minimum of one to two years of commercial software engineering experience
  • Practical programming ability in at least one object-oriented language
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational data modelling
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills, with excellent attention to detail
  • Good communication and collaboration skills
  • Clear spoken and written English

Desirable

  • Day-to-day use of AI coding assistants or agents on real work
  • Building or maintaining data pipelines: ingestion, validation, transformation, scheduling and monitoring
  • AWS, particularly the data services (S3, Athena, Redshift, Aurora, Lambda, Glue)
  • Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, React or C#
  • Git, and CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions
  • Building or consuming APIs, and integrating third-party data feeds
  • Financial services experience

If you meet most of the essential criteria but not every desirable one, we would still like to hear from you. We do not expect anyone to arrive ticking every box.
