Summary
Senior software developer on a 12-month (extendable) contract building and supporting critical Australian government enterprise systems in a hybrid arrangement (ACT, QLD, VIC or SA). Full-SDLC work including greenfield development, enhancement and production support, mainly with mainframe tech (COBOL/Adabas Natural) and OO languages like Java or C#. Baseline security clearance required.
Salary: $120 - $145/h inc. Super

Working within a large-scale enterprise technology environment, you will play a key role in designing, developing and supporting complex applications while helping to modernise and maintain core business platforms.
As a Senior Software Developer, you will work across the full software development lifecycle, partnering with technical teams and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions. The role offers a mix of greenfield development, system enhancement, application support and technical leadership within a collaborative delivery environment.
This role will particularly suit developers with experience in mainframe technologies, enterprise application development and large-scale government or corporate ICT environments.
The Role
Working within a multidisciplinary delivery team, you will:
- Undertake analysis, design, development, testing, maintenance and support activities across enterprise applications.
- Develop and implement high-quality software solutions aligned to business and technical requirements.
- Translate complex business requirements into practical technical outcomes.
- Define technical designs and contribute to solution architecture activities.
- Support software releases, deployment activities and ongoing production support.
- Collaborate with delivery teams, architects and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Produce technical documentation, implementation artefacts and progress reporting.
- Drive continuous improvement and contribute to development standards and best practices.
- Assist with troubleshooting, issue resolution and support activities across critical systems.
- Mentor team members and contribute technical expertise across the broader development team.
You will be an experienced Software Developer with a strong background delivering enterprise-scale solutions within structured development environments. You will be comfortable working autonomously, engaging with stakeholders and navigating complex technical challenges.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience across the software development lifecycle.
- Strong software development experience within enterprise environments.
- Experience working with mainframe technologies, including COBOL and/or Adabas Natural highly regarded.
- Experience with object-oriented technologies such as Java or C#.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Experience producing technical documentation and design artefacts.
- Knowledge of software release, deployment and application support practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively within agile and collaborative delivery environments.
- 12-month contract with extension options up to 24 additional months.
