Software Developer - Core Data
Summary
Builds and maintains the core data infrastructure that powers a quantitative investment firm, using Python and kdb+/q to model financial datasets and deliver scalable data pipelines.
The Core Data team models and owns the structured datasets that connect Squarepoint to the outside world, effectively representing the firm's view of reality. We partner closely with portfolio managers and investment researchers to define robust data models and build reliable data pipelines that transform and consolidate diverse sources into high-quality, centrally managed datasets.
These datasets are delivered through a service-oriented platform designed for scalability, reliability, and performance. Our technology supports every stage of the investment lifecycle, from research and backtesting to trading and portfolio management.

- Acquire a deep understanding of the data requirements provided by investment research teams and deliver solutions that create business impact
- Design, implement, test, optimize and troubleshoot data pipelines and services using Python and q
- Work with a range of database technologies, including PostgreSQL and kdb+
- Analyze, onboard, and curate vendor datasets, becoming a subject matter expert in third-party data
- Take a leading role in production support and operational excellence during business hours
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related subject
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Proficiency in Python and/or kdb+/q
- Experience developing software in a Linux environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Curiosity and a willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and frameworks
Nice to have:
- Knowledge of SQL and experience with relational and/or time-series databases
- Experience building and operating data-intensive applications
- Experience working with and analyzing financial datasets
