Job Overview
The client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Software Developer with strong expertise in Java development, RESTful Web Services, microservices architecture, and database technologies.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining large-scale, multi-client web applications. The role requires strong technical expertise, experience with Agile methodologies, system integration, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional technical and business teams.
The candidate should also possess experience in systems re-engineering, workflow optimization, business and data modelling, and requirements documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Translate technical system specifications into functional, tested applications.
Design, develop, code, test, debug, and maintain software applications.
Develop detailed programming specifications and implement technical solutions.
Build and maintain large-scale web applications using Java and database technologies.
Develop and support REST APIs and RESTful Web Services.
Design and implement microservices-based architectures.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to application implementation, migration, and deployment.
Work with relational and hierarchical databases and perform SQL queries.
Collaborate with business analysts, architects, developers, and other IT professionals throughout the SDLC.
Participate in Agile development activities and follow structured development methodologies.
Prepare and maintain technical documentation, data models, and system requirements.
Support system re-engineering, workflow optimization, and automation initiatives.
Ensure application security through appropriate authentication and authorization protocols.
Required Technical Skills and Experience
Core Development Skills
10+ years of experience as a designer and developer of large-scale, multi-client web applications.
10+ years of hands-on experience in Java development with Oracle or SQL databases.
5+ years of hands-on experience with REST APIs and RESTful Web Services.
Strong understanding of microservices architecture.
Experience applying software architecture principles to improve application scalability, extensibility, and maintainability.
Experience developing Internet-ready applications.
Knowledge of Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodologies.
Experience using Azure DevOps.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of security gateways and protocols, including:
JWT
OAuth 2.0
SSL Certificates
Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).
Knowledge of software design patterns, clean coding practices, and refactoring.
Experience with relational and hierarchical database technologies.
Experience with SQL and database query languages.
Knowledge of communication protocols.
Experience with application design, deployment, and troubleshooting.
Understanding of Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
Data Modelling and Business Analysis
Strong expertise in data and business modelling.
Experience creating:
Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERD)
Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams
Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN)
Data Flow Diagrams (DFD)
Process maps and workflow diagrams
Experience preparing Data Requirements Documents (DRD) and System Requirements Documents (SRD).
Experience extracting data from databases using SQL and LINQ.
Experience with systems re-engineering, workflow optimization, and automation.

7+ years of experience in IT projects.
Strong Java development experience.

Ability to work five days onsite in Toronto.
