Software Developer
Summary
End-to-end Software Developer at a 10-year Sydney consultancy, building client-facing products with Angular, Firebase, NestJS, TypeScript, and SQL databases while leveraging AI as a productivity multiplier.
Salary: $90,000 – $120,000 per year
About the role
You'll own problems end-to-end, from a client conversation to something shipped and working in production. You'll design, build, and be accountable for the outcome, not just the code. You'll use AI as a genuine multiplier: to move fast on the 80% and reserve your judgment for the 20% that decides whether the result is any good. And you'll be expected to make StepInsight better, to spot the process that's dumb, the tool we're missing, the thing nobody's questioning.
About you
You take ownership. When something's broken or unclear, you drive it to resolution instead of waiting to be told.
You're already living in the new way of building. AI hasn't threatened you, you've absorbed it, you know where it's brilliant and where it quietly fails, and you catch the lies.
You ask the questions everyone else skipped. You'd rather challenge a bad brief than build it perfectly.
You learn on your own initiative, because you can't help it, not because someone put it on a development plan.
You want to help build a company, not just collect a salary.
Requirements
Solid experience in core web development technologies, including Angular and Firebase
Experience building RESTful APIs with NestJS and TypeScript
Experience designing and managing SQL databases (MySQL, MSSQL, or other relational database)
Experience using automated build and deployment systems such as GitHub or BitBucket
Minimum 1-2 years of software development experience
Take ownership and drive issues to resolution
Comfortable with ambiguity and hard client problems
Learn on your own initiative
Ask challenging questions and prefer to challenge a bad brief rather than build it perfectly
About us
We build the technology that transforms how mid-market businesses operate, real products, real AI, real ROI. We've been around for 10 years, we're a growing consultancy, not a polished corporate. The work is ambiguous, the client problems are genuinely hard, and you'll wear more than one hat. That's the trade off for real ownership and moving fast without red tape. We're deliberately lean, and we deliver like a team three times our size because of how we work, not how many of us there are.
If you need detailed specs before you can start, prefer to stay in your lane, ship AI output you can't fully explain, or want a big-company machine to hide inside, we'll both be happier if you don't apply. No hard feelings.
If that sounds like a downside, it isn't the place for you. If it sounds like oxygen, come join us.
How to apply
Skip the cover letter. Apply through our portal, where you'll upload your CV and take on a short OSINT challenge - a puzzle, not a personality quiz. It's the same kind of resourceful, get-to-the-bottom-of-it thinking the job runs on, and it's genuinely good fun.
You can apply with just your CV if you'd rather - but we only consider candidates who've done the challenge, so you'll be nudged to complete it before we take a proper look. The people who dive straight in tend to be the people we end up hiring.
