Software Development Engineer -3 (Mobile)
Summary
Quince is hiring a Software Development Engineer III (Mobile) in Bengaluru to design, build, and optimize its consumer-facing React Native shopping app across iOS and Android, with a strong focus on performance tuning, React Native internals (TurboModules, JSI, Fabric), and cross-functional collaboration.
THE ROLE
Software Development Engineer III – Mobile
We’re looking for a Software Development Engineer III – Mobile to join our growing engineering team and help build high-performance mobile experiences for Quince customers. In this role, you will design, develop, and optimize React Native applications that deliver fast, reliable, and seamless experiences at scale.
You will take ownership of complex mobile engineering problems, with a strong focus on performance, scalability, and user experience. You’ll work closely with Product, Design, and Backend teams to build scalable solutions while contributing to the evolution of Quince’s mobile architecture and engineering practices.
This role is ideal for an engineer who is deeply passionate about mobile performance, enjoys solving complex React Native challenges, and is willing to go beyond standard implementations to deliver an exceptional customer experience.
Responsibilities
Mobile Application Development
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance mobile applications using React Native.
- Build scalable, reusable, and maintainable components following modern mobile engineering best practices.
- Take ownership of complex technical problems across the React Native application stack.
- Evaluate and adopt appropriate libraries, frameworks, and architectural patterns as the mobile platform evolves.
- Contribute to internal libraries and platform capabilities where existing solutions do not adequately address engineering requirements.
Performance & Optimization
- Drive mobile performance improvements across rendering, startup time, memory usage, responsiveness, and application stability.
- Identify and eliminate unnecessary re-renders and inefficient render cycles.
- Optimize large lists and complex UI interactions to deliver smooth experiences across a wide range of devices.
- Analyze application performance and proactively identify bottlenecks before they impact customers.
- Establish and promote performance engineering best practices across the mobile team.
React Native & Native Platform Engineering
- Work deeply with React Native internals and modern React Native architecture.
- Build and optimize solutions using technologies such as FlashList, React Native Reanimated, React Native Gesture Handler, and Expo.
- Investigate complex framework and platform-level issues across iOS and Android.
- Work with TurboModules and native platform capabilities when React Native abstractions are insufficient.
- Write and debug native iOS and Android code when required to solve performance or platform-specific problems.
Quality & Reliability
- Develop and maintain comprehensive test cases to ensure application quality and reliability.
- Debug complex production and development issues across the mobile stack.
- Establish practices that improve application stability, performance, and release quality.
- Participate in code reviews and provide thoughtful feedback on architecture, implementation, performance, and maintainability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product, Design, Backend, and other engineering teams to define and implement scalable mobile solutions.
- Translate product and customer requirements into robust technical designs and implementation plans.
- Collaborate across teams to identify technical dependencies, trade-offs, and opportunities for improving the overall customer experience.
- Communicate technical decisions and complex mobile engineering concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Technical Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and help raise the technical bar across the mobile team.
- Promote clean coding practices, performance optimization, testing, and engineering excellence.
- Contribute to technical discussions, architecture decisions, and long-term mobile engineering strategy.
- Stay current with developments in React Native, mobile platforms, and modern application performance techniques.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5–8 years of professional experience in software, frontend, or mobile engineering.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience building production applications with React Native.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript with a deep understanding of React Native fundamentals.
- Strong understanding of mobile application architecture, rendering, state management, and performance optimization.
- Hands-on experience optimizing React Native applications, including render cycles, unnecessary re-renders, memory usage, and application responsiveness.
- Experience troubleshooting complex React Native issues and identifying root causes across the JavaScript and native layers.
- Experience with modern React Native libraries such as FlashList, React Native Reanimated, React Native Gesture Handler, and Expo.
- Proficiency with debugging and profiling tools such as Flipper, React DevTools, and Chrome DevTools.
- Familiarity with iOS and Android platform fundamentals and the ability to investigate platform-specific issues.
- Experience with TurboModules and writing native iOS/Android code when required.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a strong bias toward performance, quality, and customer experience.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across functions.
Preferred:
- Experience building and scaling consumer-facing mobile applications with a large customer base.
- Deep understanding of React Native performance profiling and optimization.
- Experience working with the New React Native Architecture, including JSI, Fabric, and TurboModules.
- Experience developing native modules or integrating third-party native SDKs across iOS and Android.
- Experience with mobile CI/CD, automated releases, and tools such as Expo Application Services (EAS).
- Experience with mobile observability, crash reporting, performance monitoring, and analytics.
- Experience in e-commerce, retail, or other high-scale consumer applications.
