Software Development Engineer II · Chennai, India · In office with remote flexibility · 2–3 years experience

We're looking for engineers two-to-three years in who are already building with agents — and want to do it on a product that Fortune 500 companies run on. If you want to own features end to end, debug your own code in production, and work on a team where the bar is high and the lanes are wide, read on.

About Us

Chronus is the market leader in enterprise mentoring and connection software, trusted by Fortune 500 companies worldwide.

We are an AI-native engineering organisation. Coding agents, automated review and machine-assisted design are core to how we ship — not a side experiment someone is piloting in a corner. If you've been using Claude Code or Cursor in spite of your team's process rather than because of it, this will feel like an upgrade.

The Team

Small, seasoned, and deliberately kept that way. You'll work with engineers who have deep technical backgrounds, a high bar for what ships, and the autonomy to move without asking permission three times.

You'll sit close to Product and Design, and close to an Engineering Lead whose job includes making you better. There is no layer of people between you and the decisions that affect your work.

What You'll Own

This is a full-stack individual contributor role, and "own" is the operative word.

  • Features, end to end. From understanding the customer problem to running it in production. Not tickets handed to you pre-chewed.
  • AI in the loop, daily. Use coding agents to move faster while holding the quality bar. You'll be expected to have opinions about where they help and where they quietly make things worse.
  • Your surface of the product. Know how it behaves live. Monitor it. Debug to the actual cause. Respond when it breaks — with the team behind you, not watching you.
  • Your teammates' code. You review their pull requests. A second pair of eyes on everything that ships.
  • The shape of the work. Ask the questions that sharpen the ticket. Surface the edge cases before they become incidents.
  • The invisible stuff. Performance, security, accessibility, responsiveness, readability, testability, maintainability. Design before you code, name things well, write the tests, leave the code better than you found it.

Stack

  • Ruby on Rails on the server
  • React on the front end
  • MySQL and relational data at scale
  • Multi-tenant SaaS architecture
  • Coding agents — Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor — as part of the daily workflow

We hire for judgement, not a keyword list. Strong engineers pick up frameworks quickly.

How We Work

Agile in the real sense: iterate quickly, adapt as priorities shift, don't wait for a perfect spec. Direct feedback on code, given and taken. Ask for help early rather than late. Finish what you start. You'll thrive here if you take ownership without being chased and care about the customer problem behind the work.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base plus performance bonus (specifics shared during the process)
  • Health insurance for you and your family
  • Internet reimbursement
  • Learning opportunities with reimbursement
  • Flexible leave policy

Growth

The role is built to grow. There's a clear path to Senior Engineer with the scope to actually earn it, and from there toward either people leadership or technical leadership, depending on where your strengths land. Senior engineers here review your work and invest in getting you better — this is a team you learn from, not just deliver alongside.

You'll Fit If

  • You have a web development background and have shipped real web applications
  • You're full-stack in practice: strong on either the server or the browser, comfortable across both
  • Coding agents are already part of how you work, and you can talk about their limits as fluently as their strengths
  • You have real judgement about code quality — you know design patterns and when not to use them, can tell good code from bad and say why, and refactor as a habit rather than a project
  • You think like a product person: you understand the customer problem, own your pieces, follow through
  • You keep up with where the field is going and bring it back to the team
  • Nice to have: Ruby on Rails and React (or a comparable server-side framework and modern SPA front end), multi-tenant SaaS, MySQL

Chronus is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and is an equal opportunity employer.
