Summary
Backend SDE III building and owning scalable microservices and REST APIs for the Contacts domain of a CRM SaaS platform used by businesses worldwide. Day-to-day is distributed-systems work in TypeScript/Node.js, with Docker, AWS/GCP, and tools like Kafka, Redis, and Elasticsearch.
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Development Engineer III (Backend) - Contacts based in India.
As a Software Development Engineer III, you will build and evolve the backend systems powering a core CRM platform used by businesses worldwide. You will work hands-on as an Individual Contributor, owning high-impact initiatives across the Contacts domain and helping shape scalable technical solutions. Your work will support contact records, views, filtering, segmentation, and other foundational capabilities used throughout the broader product ecosystem. You will design reliable microservices and APIs capable of handling large-scale workloads and millions of daily interactions. The role combines backend engineering, distributed systems, performance optimization, observability, and technical problem-solving. You will collaborate closely with Product, Design, QA, Infrastructure, and Engineering teams in a remote-first environment focused on ownership, quality, and continuous improvement.
Accountabilities:
You will take end-to-end ownership of backend engineering initiatives, from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment, optimization, and ongoing reliability.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs.
- Build high-performance and reliable microservices capable of supporting large-scale workloads.
- Write clean, efficient, maintainable, and production-quality code.
- Develop reusable components and services aligned with modern engineering best practices.
- Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to system architecture decisions.
- Optimize backend services for scalability, performance, availability, and reliability.
- Investigate production issues and implement sustainable solutions.
- Improve observability and system reliability through monitoring, logging, testing, and instrumentation.
- Participate in incident resolution and root cause analysis when required.
- Work closely with Product Managers, Designers, QA professionals, Infrastructure teams, and other engineers to deliver high-quality features.
- Participate in code reviews to maintain engineering standards and continuously improve code quality.
- Share technical knowledge and collaborate with teammates to solve complex engineering challenges.
- Contribute to improvements in engineering practices, testing strategies, and software development lifecycle processes.
- Independently design, develop, test, and deploy scalable backend solutions.
- Identify opportunities to improve system performance, scalability, reliability, and developer productivity.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in backend software development.
- Strong professional experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
- Candidates with strong experience in JavaScript, Go, Java, Python, C#, or similar backend technologies are also encouraged to apply if they are willing to work extensively with TypeScript and Node.js.
- Proven experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including schema design and query optimization.
- Knowledge of caching strategies, asynchronous processing, and message queues.
- Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized applications.
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern software development practices.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Sentry, ELK, or similar technologies.
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles, testing methodologies, and debugging techniques.
- Experience working on high-scale SaaS products is preferred.
- Familiarity with Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch, or similar distributed technologies is a plus.
- Experience optimizing backend systems for performance and scalability is preferred.
- Exposure to Kubernetes and cloud-native architectures is a plus.
- Experience working in Agile development environments is beneficial.
