Discussion

Summary

Experienced SDET role based in India (listed via Jobgether on behalf of a partner company) owning test infrastructure: architecting scalable Playwright/TypeScript automation frameworks, REST/GraphQL API testing, AWS-based test environments, and CI/CD optimization, while mentoring junior SDET engineers.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test - SDET based in India.

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of critical test infrastructure and help shape quality engineering practices across a modern, fast-moving technology environment. You will design scalable automation frameworks and testing strategies for complex product capabilities while influencing architectural decisions around test design. The position combines advanced software engineering, test automation, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD optimization. You will work closely with engineering teams to shift quality earlier in the development lifecycle and build reliable, maintainable testing processes. Beyond hands-on technical work, you will mentor junior SDET engineers and contribute to technical reviews and engineering standards. This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced SDET who enjoys solving complex automation challenges and improving quality at scale.

Accountabilities:

  • Architect, build, and maintain scalable test frameworks and infrastructure, making informed architectural decisions around test design patterns, abstractions, and maintainability.
  • Develop comprehensive testing strategies for complex features and platform capabilities, integrating quality practices earlier into the software development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and cross-functional teams to identify quality risks, improve test coverage, and establish effective automation practices.
  • Refactor, optimize, and maintain existing test suites to improve reliability, maintainability, scalability, and execution performance.
  • Diagnose and improve CI/CD pipelines, reducing test execution times and resolving automation or pipeline-related bottlenecks.
  • Build and manage AWS-based test environments, including environment configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and debugging.
  • Develop custom testing tools, automation utilities, and reporting solutions that provide actionable quality insights.
  • Design and implement API testing and orchestration across REST and GraphQL services, including integrations with UI-based workflows.
  • Apply scalable object-oriented test architecture and reusable abstractions rather than relying on linear or repetitive test scripts.
  • Produce and maintain advanced test reporting using solutions such as Allure, Playwright HTML reports, and custom reporting frameworks.
  • Conduct technical code reviews and contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and architectural decisions.
  • Mentor SDET I engineers, helping them strengthen their automation, software design, and testing capabilities.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve test infrastructure, developer productivity, automation reliability, and overall engineering quality.
  • Requirements

    • Extensive hands-on experience with Playwright, including deep knowledge of its fixtures architecture and scalable test automation practices.
    • Strong experience designing object-oriented test frameworks using layered patterns such as Page Object Model (POM), Page Component Object Model (PCOM), and other reusable abstractions.
    • Proven experience with API testing and orchestration using REST and GraphQL, particularly when integrated with UI workflows.
    • Advanced TypeScript expertise, including generics, decorators, advanced typing patterns, type inference, and complex asynchronous programming.
    • Strong understanding of concurrency, asynchronous execution, race-condition prevention, and reliable automation in distributed or parallel environments.
    • Solid software design knowledge, including domain-driven design and design patterns such as Factory, Builder, Facade, and Composite.
    • Hands-on AWS experience, including EC2 configuration, CloudWatch log analysis, cloud environment debugging, and management of test infrastructure.
    • Strong Docker experience covering containerization, docker-compose, image management, and container-based testing environments.
    • Proven ability to debug, optimize, and improve CI/CD pipelines and automated test execution.
    • Expert-level knowledge of Git, GitHub, and distributed version control workflows.
    • Advanced experience with test reporting solutions such as Allure, Playwright HTML reports, and custom reporting approaches.
    • Strong understanding of test infrastructure architecture, framework scalability, performance optimization, and the npm ecosystem/package management.
    • Terraform experience is a plus.
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to make sound technical decisions in complex testing environments.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence engineering practices and work effectively across teams.
    • Demonstrated ability to mentor less experienced engineers and provide constructive technical feedback.
    • Benefits

      • Top-of-market salary, plus bonuses and equity.
      • 49 days of paid time off.
      • Comprehensive benefits, including PTO, retirement, and wellness plans.
      • Professional development support and opportunities for continued technical growth.
      • Remote workspace setup bonus.
      • Remote-first work environment with the flexibility to work from a location of choice.
      • Opportunity to collaborate with globally distributed engineering teams.
      • Annual company offsites in international destinations.
      • High-impact role with significant ownership over test infrastructure, automation, and engineering quality.
      • Opportunity to work with modern technologies across test automation, TypeScript, AWS, Docker, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure.
