Software Engineer - Access Management (Java Full Stack)
Summary
Remote (US) senior Java full-stack engineer building enterprise-scale access management and authorization platforms: designing secure Java/Spring microservices and REST APIs, Angular/React frontends, CI/CD automation, monitoring, and 24x7 on-call, while mentoring teammates. Deep Java/Spring plus OAuth2/OIDC/SAML and RBAC/ABAC/PBAC knowledge is core.
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer - Access Management (Java Full Stack) based in the United States.
This role offers the opportunity to build and evolve critical access management and authorization platforms at enterprise scale.
You will design secure, highly available services that govern authentication, authorization, and policy-based access across complex technology environments.
Working within a modern product engineering team, you will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from architecture and development to testing and production operations.
The role combines backend Java expertise with modern frontend development, cloud technologies, automation, and DevOps practices.
You will also help modernize legacy capabilities, improve platform stability and efficiency, and strengthen continuous delivery practices.
As a senior engineer, you will mentor teammates, influence technical direction, and contribute to roadmap planning and knowledge sharing.
The position is remote within the United States, with an emphasis on secure, scalable engineering and collaborative Agile delivery.
Accountabilities
- Own software development activities end-to-end, from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment, production support, and continuous improvement.
- Design and develop secure, scalable microservices, RESTful APIs, distributed platforms, and access management capabilities using Java and the Spring ecosystem.
- Contribute to architecture decisions and technical direction in collaboration with architects and senior engineering stakeholders.
- Develop modern frontend functionality using technologies such as Angular or React while maintaining robust backend services.
- Build automated unit, integration, and regression tests to validate functionality, user-story acceptance, and application quality.
- Participate in pair programming and Agile ceremonies while delivering valuable, production-ready software.
- Manage and contribute to the product roadmap, helping prioritize technical improvements, modernization initiatives, and long-term platform capabilities.
- Monitor production systems, investigate performance or reliability issues, and participate in a rotational 24x7 on-call schedule for critical and high-severity incidents.
- Implement application monitoring, telemetry, and alerting capabilities to identify and respond to production failures proactively.
- Optimize CI/CD pipelines and delivery tooling by automating manual processes, strengthening quality gates, and improving engineering efficiency.
- Review continuous integration builds, troubleshoot failures, and maintain reliable automated deployment processes.
- Support exploratory testing to identify defects and application behaviors that may not be captured through automated testing.
- Mentor and coach software engineers, support technical learning, participate in interviewing, and organize knowledge-sharing activities.
- Contribute to continuous product stability, technology refresh, operational efficiency, and modernization initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- 6+ years of professional software development experience with demonstrated ownership of enterprise-scale applications and platforms.
- Deep expertise in Core Java, preferably Java 11 or higher, and the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot, Spring Security, and Spring Data.
- Hands-on experience with modern frontend technologies such as Angular or React.
- Strong experience designing and developing secure microservices, RESTful APIs, and distributed enterprise systems.
- Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL, as well as NoSQL or caching technologies such as MongoDB and Redis.
- Experience with build automation and CI/CD technologies, including Gradle, Jenkins, or Tekton, and source-code repositories such as Git.
- Experience working with cloud platforms, with knowledge of Pivotal Cloud Foundry and Google Cloud Platform particularly valuable.
- Familiarity with development environments such as Eclipse or IntelliJ, Agile planning tools such as Jira or Rally, and ServiceNow for incident, change, and ticket management.
- Strong understanding of authentication and federation technologies, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML 2.0, and multi-factor authentication.
- Knowledge of Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC), and Policy-Based Access Control (PBAC).
- Experience integrating access management solutions with LDAP, Active Directory, Azure AD, or Microsoft Entra ID is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in an Agile product environment and take ownership of production systems and operational outcomes.
- Willingness to participate in rotational on-call support for critical and high-priority production incidents.
