Summary

Backend-leaning AI engineer on the AI Decisioning team of a Series C customer-data/marketing platform: prototyping and productionizing LLM pipelines and data agents that personalize customer interactions, working directly with the CTO and COO. $200K-$260K base plus equity; Bay Area strongly preferred.

About the company

Our client is a Series C, venture-backed data and AI company on a mission to empower everyone to take action on their data. Hundreds of companies, including well-known consumer and tech brands, rely on its platform to drive their growth.

The company built a customer data platform that lets companies use their own data warehouse to collect, prepare, and activate customer data for marketing personalization and business operations. On that foundation, it now offers an Agentic Marketing Platform and AI Decisioning: marketers set goals and guardrails, and AI agents use them to personalize 1:1 customer interactions. This brings brand context, customer data, and performance history into one place, so marketers can build and ship full campaigns themselves. In the past, only technical teams could access and use customer data; this platform lets any business user deliver personalized experiences, improve performance marketing, and move faster with data and AI.

The company is in hypergrowth, with revenue and headcount roughly doubling every year. It has raised over $90M at a unicorn valuation, backed by top-tier investors. It is headquartered in San Francisco, with team members around the world.

Culture: The team cares about real impact for customers. People tackle problems from first principles, move quickly and efficiently, and treat each other with compassion and kindness. The company looks for strong communicators with a growth mindset who are motivated and persistent. The engineering culture is strong and holds a very high bar for quality: software should be scalable, simple, and extensible.

About the role

The company is expanding its AI Decisioning team and is looking for a product-minded AI engineer to help build the configurable agent that will personalize every customer interaction. The ideal candidate has strong customer and product thinking, is highly creative with LLM applications, and can both rapidly prototype and architect production LLM pipelines.

The role is a mix of backend engineering, data analysis, and applied AI, with senior room for impact. You’ll take full ownership of defining AI methodologies, exploring LLMs, and influencing major product lines from the ground up, working directly with the CTO and COO to drive the implementation of AI across the platform.

Responsibilities

  • Quickly iterate and develop proofs of concept to explore the maximum potential of integrating AI into data and marketing workflows.
  • Work closely with a small team, and directly with the CTO and COO, to prototype and ship new product ideas quickly, laying the groundwork for major product lines.
  • Make key decisions about the choice of AI architecture and frameworks.
  • Explore different AI methodologies and determine where various LLMs can and cannot be effectively used within the product.
  • Build production data agents that use a company’s data to seamlessly answer analytics and data science questions about their users and marketing efforts.
  • Develop a deep understanding of user workflows to create seamless AI-assisted user experiences.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience working on core products, ideally in an AI/ML context.
  • Product engineering experience at high-velocity, VC-backed startups (Series B–F).
  • Experience with complex AI applications, beyond simple RAG applications.
  • Strong technical skills, particularly in backend architecture, and product intuition to execute projects from start to finish.
  • Strong customer and product thinking, with the ability to rapidly prototype and architect production LLM pipelines.
  • A track record of fast growth, seen through title progression and/or increasing scope.
  • Degree in Computer Science or Math from a top university.

Nice to have

  • Experience as an early engineering hire and/or founder, building products from inception to iteration.
  • AI coursework during your studies.

Benefits

  • $200K–$320K base salary.
  • Competitive equity.
  • Great benefits.
  • Remote, with a strong preference for candidates located in the Bay Area.
  • Meaningful equity compensation
  • Competitive base salary that doesn't change by location
  • Remote-first: work fully remote, hybrid or in an office
  • Office access in San Francisco, New York City and North Carolina
