About the role

GovTech and the National Environment Agency are seeking engineers to build production-grade AI systems that improve complex operational workflows. This role focuses on creating reliable, maintainable, and secure software that meets the high trust requirements of the public sector. You will move beyond prototyping to own the full lifecycle of AI-enabled products.

What you’ll do

  • Design, deploy, and maintain AI-enabled products and platform components.
  • Develop solutions involving LLM integration, agentic workflows, guardrails, and multimodal AI.
  • Translate ambiguous operational challenges into functional software with clear success metrics.
  • Create reusable engineering patterns, templates, and test harnesses for other product teams.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, data scientists, and governance teams.
  • Use AI development tools to speed up delivery while maintaining human oversight of quality.
  • Conduct code reviews, design sessions, and incident response activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in software engineering, machine learning, or data science.
  • Completion of at least one end-to-end AI development and deployment project.
  • Proficiency in software fundamentals including system design, CI/CD, observability, and security.
  • Ability to explain technical trade-offs and defend positions with clear reasoning.
  • Experience navigating ambiguous requirements to define product scope.
  • Demonstrated ownership of the full software lifecycle, including monitoring and user feedback.
  • Capacity to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders in public-sector settings.
  • Focus on measurable quality through regression testing, evals, and traceability.

Nice to have

  • Experience deploying production LLM or AI-enabled applications.
  • Familiarity with evaluation frameworks, prompt engineering, model monitoring, or AI safety guardrails.
  • Proficiency in Python, TypeScript, Go, PostgreSQL, or containerized deployments.
  • Background in building internal platforms, developer tools, or reusable kits.
  • Knowledge of the environment domain, public-sector operations, or high-trust digital services.
