Software Engineer, Backend, Google Photos
Summary
Backend software engineer on the Google Photos business growth team, building globally-scaled storage management and monetization features tied to Google One. Day to day involves writing and reviewing code, developing APIs, and collaborating with PM, UX, QA, and Android/iOS teams on large-scale distributed systems.
As a part of the Photos business generation team, you will focus on optimizing business growth strategies for the Photos App. You will manage vital user storage journeys that are central to our business growth.
In this role, your mission is to create and enhance experiences that drive the expansion of Google Photos and its integration with Google One. You will assist users throughout their storage life-cycle, helping them monitor usage and find the best solutions to keep their digital memories secure and accessible.

US: $147000 - $210000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

- Write product or system development code.
- Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
- Collaborate with Product Manager, UX, Quality Assurance and other cross-functional partners to define requirements and design engineering solutions to user problems.
- Coordinate with the engineering leads on other platforms (Android, iOS) to achieve consistent experiences while maintaining platform specific nuances.
- Build delightful experiences that further the Storage Monetization mission goals inside one of Google's most loved apps - Photos.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
- 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
- Experience developing APIs and integrating third-party services.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
- 2 years of experience with performance, large-scale systems data analysis, visualization tools, or debugging.
- 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms in either an academic or industry setting.
- 2 years of experience programming in the Java or Kotlin programming language.
- Proficiency in code and system health, diagnosis and resolution, and software test engineering.
