Software Engineer, Backend - GrabDefence
We're looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Backend Software Engineer to join the GrabDefence team in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. You will design, develop, and maintain backend systems that power our defense and security solutions. You will work with a talented team of engineers to build scalable, efficient, and secure infrastructure that protects our users and organization.
Get to know the Role
As a Backend Software Engineer on the GrabDefence team, you will help build and maintain the backend systems that protect Grab's platform, users, and financial ecosystem. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving technical problems, learning from experienced teammates, and contributing to products that operate at large-scale. You will be reporting to Senior Software Engineering Manager, Trust. You will work with software engineers, product managers, data scientists, and security partners. Together, you will develop services that power capabilities such as name screening, transaction screening, fraud detection and prevention, and other risk management solutions. In addition to building new features, you will help ensure our systems remain reliable through operational support, maintenance, bug fixing, and participation in the team's on-call rotation.We are looking for someone with a engineering foundation, curiosity to learn, and experience building scalable, reliable backend systems. You are comfortable working in a collaborative environment, of your work, and both the products you build and your technical skills.
This role is onsite based in our Petaling Jaya, Malaysia office.
The Critical Tasks You Will Perform
- You will design and develop scalable backend services and APIs using modern programming languages and frameworks
- You will architect and implement microservices-based solutions that meet performance and reliability requirements
- You will improve database queries and design efficient data models for both SQL and NoSQL databases
- You will collaborate with teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- You will implement security best practices and conduct code reviews to ensure code quality and system integrity
- You will develop and maintain comprehensive unit tests and integration tests to ensure code reliability
- You will participate in system design discussions and contribute to technical documentation
