As a Software Engineer - Backend, you’ll primarily be developing and maintaining features for our User app and its relevant APIs. In this role, you will be the backbone to every product; optimizing new and existing algorithms that make our operations run smoothly. You will design, implement, and launch scalable systems to build new products, features, and services as well as improve existing ones. As Lalamove continues its rapid expansion, our products must be able to support the growth coming from our users, drivers, and orders.

Owns a small-to-medium requirement. You take a business request of that size from clarification through release. You work with the PM until the requirement is clear enough to build, including the edge cases.

Proposes a fitting solution. You consider both the business requirement and the current system, and you recommend the approach that fulfills the need at a fitting cost.

Plans the work before the sprint. You break the task down, estimate the man-days accurately, and arrange the work by priority before the sprint starts.

Starts without being pushed. You keep useful work moving when no one is assigning the next step. You act on a risk or a broken requirement before it becomes an incident or a rewrite. You learn a technology because the work needs it, and you apply it on the job.

Owns the result. You treat the outcome as yours, including when it breaks: you tell the right people early, fix it, and change the way you work so the same miss is less likely.

Verifies what you ship. You catch small mismatches in APIs and data — status codes, empty versus missing, contract versus code — and you check them before release. You understand, test, and verify the code you are responsible for, including code written with AI assistants.

Works efficiently. You keep several tasks organized, complete the agreed scope on time, and the result rarely has to be redone.

Works with the team. You align early with frontend and other services, you can disagree and still ship, and you unblock people whose work depends on yours.
What you'll need:

2+ years hand-on experience in Backend development (Preferably in Java) with University graduate in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields

Sound Knowledge of middlewares such as Redis/ElasticSearch/Kafka/RabbitMQ will be an advantage
- Solid experience in building backend microservices and APIs, MySQL, AWS exposure, and middleware as an advantage.

Be comfortable with ambiguous requirements and with learning what the service needs as it grows.

Can work well with other teams, and you can drive your own work through to a clear done.

Good communication of written and spoken English, Cantonese and Mandarin would be a plus.
