Software Engineer (Backend)
Summary
Lendbuzz is hiring a backend Software Engineer for its Boston-based Core squad to build and scale Python services behind RESTful APIs and Kafka event-driven workflows. The role focuses on modernizing legacy architecture onto containerized AWS microservices with canary releases, and improving CI/CD, monitoring, autoscaling, and reliability.
We're looking for a backend-focused Software Engineer to build high-quality, scalable backend systems behind our products and help shape the user experiences they power.
As part of our Boston-based Core squad, you'll take on complex, high-impact technical challenges that help our product teams move faster. You'll play a key role in making Lendbuzz's products reliable and sustainable as we scale.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Drive the architecture and implementation of Lendbuzz's core platform to ensure high scalability and system reliability as the company grows
-
Build and maintain Python backend services behind RESTful APIs and event-driven (Kafka) workflows
-
Modernize legacy architecture: migrate our core platform to containerized AWS services and split out domain microservices, rolling them out safely with canary releases
-
Improve CI/CD and developer experience: faster test runs, better deploy workflows, and smoother releases
-
Strengthen reliability through monitoring, health checks, autoscaling, and well-run scheduled jobs and data pipelines
-
Work with product and platform teams to unblock delivery and make shared systems easier to build on
Key Requirements:
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
-
5+ years of production backend software development experience, with proficient Python expertise
-
Self-driven, adaptable, and creative problem-solver who thrives in a dynamic, fast-changing environment — able to independently tackle complex technical challenges and production issues while collaborating seamlessly within a team
-
Proven track record designing scalable microservices and complex event-driven architectures using Kafka and RabbitMQ or Temporal
-
Familiarity with agentic development workflows and AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar), and an interest in applying them to real engineering work
-
Deep technical fluency with relational databases (PostgreSQL, AWS RDS), cloud infrastructure (AWS), container management (ECS/K8s), and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
