Software Engineer (Backend | Python | FastAPI)

Salary: $6,000 – $8,500 per month

Our Client

Our client is a leading public sector organisation developing large-scale digital platforms that support research, data and innovation. As part of the continued development of its technology capabilities, they are looking for a Software Engineer to build scalable backend services and platform capabilities supporting advanced research applications.

As this is a greenfield project, the role offers the opportunity to shape the platform's architecture and technical direction from the ground up.

Job Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain containerised microservices for algorithm ingestion, versioning, lifecycle management and execution monitoring.

• Build RESTful APIs using Python (FastAPI) or Node.js to support the execution and monitoring of research algorithms.

• Implement secure resource isolation and sandboxing mechanisms to enable the safe and reliable execution of third-party code.

• Collaborate with researchers, technical specialists and cross-functional teams to translate research requirements into robust and scalable technical solutions.

• Contribute to software engineering best practices through automated testing, code reviews, GitHub Actions CI/CD and technical documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent software engineering experience.

• At least 2 years of software development experience with strong proficiency in Python (experience with Node.js is also welcomed).

• Hands-on experience developing RESTful APIs, backend services or microservices using frameworks such as FastAPI or Express.

• Experience with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL) and object storage technologies (e.g. Amazon S3).

• Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, CI/CD or secure containerisation practices would be an advantage.
