CHAMP Cargosystems is headquartered in Luxembourg and operates offices in London, Zurich, Frankfurt, Manila, Singapore and Atlanta.

We are currently looking for a Software Engineer to join our team.

The role will be reporting to the Development Team Lead.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform multiple software development functions, including coding programs, testing, and providing technical support.

  • Translate design specifications into clean, efficient, and maintainable program code in accordance with company software engineering standards.

  • Collaborate with fellow software engineers to deliver assigned tasks, participate in technical discussions, and resolve technical issues.

  • Advocate for code quality best practices to deliver reliable, performant, and maintainable software solutions.

  • Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing software systems.

  • Write unit tests and provide technical support during system implementation and migration activities.

  • Assist in preparing detailed project documentation.

  • Deliver fixes and enhancements on existing systems with AI coding agents: investigate issues across code, logs and configuration, write clear specifications for the change, and give the agent the context it needs (relevant modules, business rules, constraints of the existing platform).

  • Make AI-assisted changes safe on legacy code: write characterization tests that capture current behavior before changing it, and review AI-generated code, your own and your colleagues’, with the same rigor as any other change.

  • Use AI to document undocumented modules, business rules and integrations, checking the result against the actual code, and share prompts and workflows that work with the team.

  • Comply with CHAMP IT Security requirements, ISMS policies, data protection regulations, and incident reporting procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong proficiency in Java, Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), and solid SQL querying skills across relational databases such as Oracle or SQL Server; knowledge of MongoDB is a plus.

  • Hands-on experience with version control (Git or SVN) and build tools such as Maven or Ant.

  • Familiarity with frameworks and technologies including Spring Boot, JPA, REST APIs, XML, Swing, RMI, Hibernate, EJB, Angular, Ionic, IBM MQ, or Kafka.

  • Understanding of software design patterns, alongside exposure to Scrum and DevOps practices.

  • Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving capabilities, strong interpersonal skills, and a good command of the English language

  • Practical experience using AI coding agents on established codebases, and the judgment to know when to rely on them, when to step in and when to write the code yourself.

  • Good grasp of context engineering and spec-driven development: writing specifications and project instructions that agents can follow, and setting guardrails such as tests the output must pass.

  • Ability to spot and fix typical AI mistakes in older codebases (suggestions that do not fit the project’s Java version, frameworks or conventions, invented APIs, plausible but wrong business logic, weakened tests, security issues), and awareness of what must never be shared with AI tools, such as customer data from logs or messages, or credentials.

  • Experience building features on top of large language models (calling model APIs, retrieval, tool use, evaluating outputs) is an advantage.

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent field.

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in Java and object-oriented programming with SQL database development.

  • Experience using AI coding agents on real projects in a team, with concrete examples you can walk us through: what worked, what did not, and how you verified the result.

Employment is subject to satisfactory reference and background checks, where applicable and permitted by local law.

Security : the successful candidate will have to comply with CHAMP Security Requirements (including but not limited to CHAMP’s IT Security Policies, especially the ISMS Policy and the Acceptable Use Policy, mandatory courses, confidentiality and data protection, use of company assets, and incident reporting).
