The Role
We are looking for a Software Engineer to design, develop, test and maintain software applications and cloud-based systems. You will work closely with our product and client teams to turn business requirements into reliable, well-built solutions, and you will have a hand in everything from database design to deployment.
Key Responsibilities
Analyse user and business requirements and translate them into technical designs, system architectures and software specifications.
Design, write, test and maintain application code, primarily in Java, following agreed coding standards and quality procedures.
Design and optimise relational databases, write efficient SQL queries and improve data retrieval performance.
Build and maintain APIs and integrations between application modules, databases and cloud services.
Diagnose and resolve software defects through debugging, root-cause analysis and unit testing.
Monitor application performance, identify recurring issues and implement improvements to reliability and scalability.
Support deployment activities, including CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git) and management of development, testing and production environments.
Prepare and maintain technical documentation, system specifications and user guides.
Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives.
Skills and Experience
Bachelor/Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Commerce (Computers) or a related field.
Minimum 1 year of experience in a software development role.
Solid Java programming skills and experience with SQL and relational database design.
Experience with testing, debugging and performance optimisation of applications.
Familiarity with cloud platforms, Git and CI/CD practices.
Good communication skills and the ability to work within an Agile team.
Desirable
Experience with data pipelines, containerisation or infrastructure-as-code.
Experience writing technical documentation for developers and end users.
