Description

Are you a Software Engineer/ Data Engineer, passionate about modern Java development, data-driven solutions, and building personalized customer experiences? Join us in shaping the future of financial tech at Avanza!

Driven by changing customer behavior, digital transformation, and smart technology, the financial industry is constantly evolving. At Avanza, we are continuously improving our offerings to make savings cheaper, better, and simpler for millions of people. We are now building a brand-new Martech team within our Product & Tech organization, and we are looking for a Software Engineer/ Data Engineer to join us on this journey!

We are on an exciting journey. As Avanza expands into Denmark, we are undergoing a major cloud transformation toward Google Cloud Platform (GCP). By 2030, our goal is to be fully cloud-based and "AI-first”.

About the Role

In this role, you will be a key player in building up a new team consisting of developers, data engineers, a product manager and an engineering manager. Together, you will design, implement, further develop, and maintain high-performing products and systems within the Marketing Technology (Martech) domain.

As a Software/Data Engineer in the Martech team, you will work closely with the business and get to tackle domain-specific engineering challenges—focusing on personalized experiences, data-driven development, and scaled performance.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, implementing, and managing products and microservices architecture within the Martech domain.

  • Conducting technical investigations and feasibility studies to support well-founded architecture decisions.

  • Taking active part in design processes—both technically and in shaping the product roadmap alongside the business.

  • Participating in agile ceremonies (standups, retros, planning) with rotating responsibility, as well as shared weekly responsibility for unmapped work, bug handling, and support ("KA").

  • Challenging existing solutions with innovative, efficient ways to solve complex domain problems.

Who We Are Looking For

To thrive in this role, you are a curious, solution-oriented developer who enjoys taking technical ownership while maintaining a collaborative, team-first mindset. You communicate clearly, feel comfortable backing up your ideas with data and logic, and continuously seek out opportunities to learn and evolve. You appreciate an environment with low prestige, high trust, and a strong focus on delivering real value to our customers.

Avanza is currently transitioning to English as our primary language. We welcome English-speaking candidates who are comfortable working in an environment where Swedish is still used in day-to-day communication, meetings, and documentation. We expect this to evolve as we continue our transformation.

We would love to see that you have:

  • At least 4–5 years of relevant professional experience in system development.

  • Solid, hands-on experience with Java and it´s surrounding ecosystem.

  • Have hands-on experience with AI-assisted development and a curiosity to explore how AI can enhance our work.

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent self-taught knowledge.

It is a great bonus if you have experience or interest in:

  • Marketing Technology (Martech), personalization, or streaming data.

  • Technologies such as Spring, MongoDB, BigQuery, dbt, Spanner and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP).

  • Modern JavaScript frameworks (Angular, React) and microservices architecture.

  • Event-driven architecture, CI/CD, and test automation.

  • Domain knowledge from Fintech, insurance, or pensions.

What We Offer

At Avanza, you get to work with modern technologies in an open, helpful, and innovative atmosphere. We believe in flexibility and balance, offering a hybrid work environment where we spend 3–4 days at our office in Stockholm and 1–2 days remotely. You will be part of a culture that encourages growth, personal commitment, and having fun along the way!
