Software Engineer, Elixir
Build the backbone of global communications.
We’re looking for senior backend engineers to join our Wireless and Porting squads at Telnyx. You’ll be designing and scaling distributed systems that power millions of calls, messages, and connections every day—solving complex engineering challenges with real-world impact.
We’ll work with you during the process to match your skills and interests to the team where you can make the biggest impact.
Why this role matters
Our platform processes high-volume, real-time communications traffic across a distributed, microservices architecture. The decisions you make will directly shape the reliability, performance, and scalability of Telnyx’s infrastructure—used by businesses around the world.
What you’ll be doing
- Design, build, and maintain APIs, services, and distributed systems that keep our platform resilient at scale.
- Collaborate across squads to deliver impactful features spanning multiple systems.
- Debug production issues across services and levels of the stack, finding root causes and preventing recurrences.
- Continuously improve our engineering standards, tooling, and processes for speed, safety, and developer happiness
.
What we’re looking for
- 6+ years building production systems with functional programming languages (Elixir/Erlang preferred).
- Proven experience with relational databases at scale.
- Deep understanding of microservice architecture patterns—and the pitfalls to avoid.
- Experience with message queues (RabbitMQ, Kafka) and distributed/concurrent programming.
- Hands-on with key-value and distributed stores (ETS, Mnesia, Cassandra, Redis).
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Consul, Jenkins, Prometheus, and/or RabbitMQ in production environments.
Bonus points if you
- Bring a thoughtful approach to trade-offs—knowing when to ship fast vs. when to invest for the long term.
- Have experience scaling systems for global, high-throughput usage.
- Share knowledge and mentor others, raising the technical bar for the team.
Why you’ll love working here
- Work on high-scale, high-availability systems that are critical to businesses worldwide.
- Collaborate with talented, curious engineers who value autonomy and continuous learning.
- Influence architecture and technical strategy—your decisions will have lasting impact.
- Flexible, remote-friendly culture that trusts engineers to do their best work.
