Summary

The Software Engineer will join the Engagement tribe to build and maintain digital experiences for Finnair Plus members using a stack including Angular, Node.js, Java, and AWS. This role involves full-stack development, system integrations, and leveraging AI-assisted tools to enhance high-traffic loyalty services.

Our Digital Engineering team builds and runs Finnair’s digital customer experience, one of Finland’s largest e-commerce platforms. Finnair Plus is central to how we build lasting relationships with our customers, and getting its technology right matters.

We are looking for a

Software Engineer

to join our Engagement tribe and build the digital experiences Finnair Plus members use. The role sits within Finnair's Digital Engineering team and is based at Finnair HQ near Helsinki Airport.

The Engagement tribe builds and runs the digital experience for Finnair Plus members across web and app, from member acquisition and onboarding to the everyday loyalty experience, and is helping modernize and grow Finnair's loyalty digital ecosystem. The tribe runs the core loyalty services that the rest of that ecosystem is built on, including the integrations that connect Finnair Plus to a wide range of partners and systems. It plays a central role in developing and managing our customer identity and access management systems, and contributes to Finnair's fraud detection systems and processes. These are high-traffic, business-critical systems where reliability, security and a seamless experience directly affect customer satisfaction and revenue.

As a Software Engineer in the Engagement tribe, you'll build the experiences and services that make up Finnair Plus — from the digital touchpoints members use to the core services and partner integrations behind them. We work in cross-functional teams alongside product, design and QA, each team owning its solutions in production. Whether you lean toward the front-end or the back-end, you're happy working across the stack — and we'll find the right balance together.

In this role, you'll

  • Design and build customer-facing features, the core loyalty services behind them, and the integrations that connect Finnair Plus to partners and other systems.

  • Take your work from idea to production, and support and monitor it once it's live.

  • Keep quality high — write good tests and build things that are reliable and easy to maintain.

  • Work closely with product, design, QA and your fellow engineers.

  • Use modern, AI-assisted development as part of how you build, and help us keep improving how we work.

To succeed and enjoy this role, we hope you bring

  • Hands-on experience building and operating customer-facing services at scale.

  • Comfort working across the stack — you might lean toward the front-end or the back-end, but you're interested and capable enough to contribute on both sides.

  • A good grasp of automated testing and writing code that's testable by design.

  • A product mindset — you care how your work affects our members and the business, not just the code.

  • Strong collaboration and communication, and the proactivity to raise problems and opportunities early.

  • Genuine interest in modern, AI-assisted development.

  • A desire to learn, and to help others learn.

  • Good written and spoken English.

Nice to have

  • Experience in loyalty, e-commerce or other transaction-heavy, consumer-facing products.

  • Experience building and maintaining integrations between systems or with external partners.

  • Familiarity with authentication and authorization (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SSO).

  • Strong observability practices in production (structured logging, metrics, performance monitoring).

  • Experience in an airline or another regulated, high-security domain.

Our tech stack

  • Frontend: Angular, TypeScript, HTML, SCSS

  • Backend: Node.js, TypeScript, Java, Spring, AWS (CDK), microservices,

  • Docker

  • CI/CD & testing: GitHub Actions, Playwright, JUnit, Jest

  • Monitoring & observability: Datadog, Sentry
