Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
The Pixel Weather team is redefining intelligent computing on mobile. We are moving past static, single-source forecasting to build a proactive weather ecosystem tailored to the individual. We leverage proprietary on-device integrations to contextually adapt the weather to our users' habits, schedules, and environments.
Pixel Weather is not just a weather app with simple data source, but also a truly integrated and intuitive tool that enhances a user's daily life, helping them make smarter, more prepared decisions.
- Collaborate with direct, cross-functional teams and partner teams to define, design, implement, test and ship new features and products.
- Build weather experience potentially including Android apps, platform, server side changes to deliver key road map.
- Own the full software development life cycle from conception to delivery.
- Build mission critical user facing product components to ensure high quality and timely launch, making direct impact to Pixel's Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
- Leverage advanced natural language processing to pioneer a groundbreaking weather experience for Pixel users.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g. Java, Kotlin), or 2 years of experience with an advanced degree.
Preferred qualifications:
- 2 years of engineering experience building large-scale user facing products.
- 2 years of engineering experience building and maintaining enterprise scale services.
- 2 years of experience in using Java and Kotlin.
- 1 year of experience in Android development.
