Software Engineer

Summary

Leads backend/data engineering for a sports/gaming data platform, designing scalable Python/Go services, optimizing PostgreSQL, and bridging client integrations while maintaining real-time APIs and React/TypeScript frontends.

Grandstand (Nasdaq: GRSD) is the intelligence layer of sports, gaming and entertainment. We build the brands people trust, the data our partners depend on, and the technology this industry runs on with exceptional people, not shortcuts.

OpticOdds delivers enterprise-grade data infrastructure to B2B partners worldwide, while OddsJam and RotoWire put that same real-time intelligence directly into the hands of consumers. On the gaming and entertainment side, our portfolio includes some of the biggest names in the space: , , , and . Our flagship sites reach millions of consumers every month.

We're the first, and only, U.S. publicly traded company of our kind, and the first company to win EGR's Affiliate of the Year three times. We hold every hire to the same five standards: Taste, Agency, Speed, Craft, Responsibility.

This is a high-scope technical role responsible for shaping the strategy and architecture behind our web and backend systems. You'll spend most of your time designing, building, and shipping directly, while also driving the technical direction across teams and initiatives. The core of this role is leading through influence and strong technical judgment, with scope evolving based on the needs of the team. You'll partner closely with engineering, product, and leadership to make sure we're building the right things, the right way, and moving fast enough to stay ahead.

As a Software Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining the integrity and performance of OpticOdds' data platform. This role emphasizes engineering, building, monitoring, and improving the systems that power our real-time data feeds and APIs — from the backend through to the user-facing product. Our stack is polyglot — a Python/Django API and a fleet of Go services sharing a high-throughput PostgreSQL database and a RabbitMQ-backed real-time pipeline, all running on Kubernetes, with a React/TypeScript frontend. You'll be expected to design and evolve these systems, making sound architectural trade-off s around scalability, latency, and reliability. At the same time, you will act as a technical bridge to clients, helping them integrate smoothly and ensuring their needs are represented internally, this will take up about 25% of your time.

The role is suited to someone who brings strong engineering fundamentals, is confi dent in debugging and designing complex distributed systems, and enjoys the challenge of working in real time with mission-critical data. You will report to the Head of Engineering and collaborate with product and sales teams to ensure our platform remains the most reliable in the market.

RESPONSIBILITIES

● Data Engineering: Build, maintain, and improve the Python and Go services that process and deliver real-time sports betting data.
● System Design: Design and evolve scalable, fault-tolerant services and data fl ows, weighing trade-off s around throughput, latency, consistency, and cost.
● Frontend Engineering: Build and maintain user-facing features in our React/TypeScript application, surfacing real-time data in a fast, intuitive interface.
● Database Performance: Diagnose and optimize PostgreSQL query and indexing issues that aff ect latency and throughput at scale (e.g., query plans, indexing strategy, pagination).
● Monitoring: Proactively monitor live feeds and message queues to ensure accuracy, consistency, and minimal latency.
● API Engineering: Debug and optimize API interactions, ensuring integrations are seamless and performant.
● Client Integration: Provide technical guidance to operators during integration, ensuring our APIs are fully leveraged.
● Incident Response: Handle occasional after-hours issues with a focus on rapid resolution and root-cause prevention.
● Internal Collaboration: Represent recurring client challenges to engineering and product, helping prioritize fi xes and enhancements.
● Tooling and Automation: Contribute to internal tooling and automation that reduce manual support and improve system reliability.

QUALIFICATIONS

● 4–7 years of engineering experience, with a focus on data pipelines, real-time systems, or API-driven platforms.
● Strong skills in Python, with a proven ability to debug and optimize.
● Profi ciency in Go for building and maintaining backend services (required).
● Frontend experience with React and TypeScript (Vite/Tailwind a plus), building and maintaining production user-facing applications.
● Demonstrated experience designing distributed, real-time systems — comfortable reasoning about scalability, fault tolerance, and architectural trade-off s.
● Solid SQL / PostgreSQL fundamentals — comfortable reading query plans and reasoning about indexing and performance.
● Hands-on experience with API debugging.
● Familiarity with message queues (e.g., RabbitMQ/Kafka) and containerized deployments (Docker/Kubernetes) is a plus.
● Sports and sports betting knowledge is required.
● Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage clients confi dently while collaborating eff ectively across internal teams.
● Self-starter who thrives in dynamic, high-growth environments.
