Software Engineer I

The LifeCycle Management (LCM) team harnesses the power of data to deliver transformative insights and solutions to EA game teams and players. LCM teams are involved in every aspect of data, driving strategy and governance; building powerful data and AI applications; and developing personalization, experimentation, monetization, and analytics tools, and more. When you join LCM, you're joining a team of passionate experts working to enable more profound understanding, better ways of working, and more meaningful experiences for our players.

The Challenge Ahead

EA is building a modern, unified AdTech platform to power scalable, player-first monetization across our global portfolio of live services. At the core of this platform is the LCM Ads Server — a high-performance, distributed system that enables seamless in-game advertising with trusted measurement, high-availability delivery, and zero impact on the gameplay experience.

This is a real-time system: every ad request runs through selection, pacing, and auction logic in milliseconds, then flows into streaming pipelines that power logging, billing, and reportingall built on a modern, cloud-based tech stack with cutting-edge tools.

We are seeking developers who want to contribute innovative solutions to our live service platform for one of the most creative companies in technology. You'll have the opportunity to work on scalable systems that handle massive data volumes while enabling real-time ads systems that drive business decisions across EA's global operations.

Responsibilities

  • You will implement, test, and ship features across the Ads Server's microservices, and help build the tooling and test data that keeps our services reliable as they scale.

  • You will help instrument the platform — dashboards, metrics, alerts, and distributed traces — so that we can pinpoint bottlenecks across a complex request lifecycle.

  • You will work with cross-functional teams including Content Management & Delivery, Segmentation, Recommendation, and Experimentation to streamline the live services workflow.

  • You will engage with Game Studios and partner teams to understand their use cases, and contribute to end-to-end solutions that meet their requirements.

  • You will work with Legal and Privacy teams to ensure that compliance directives are strictly followed.

  • You will grow into the ad tech domain — ad selection, pacing, mediation, and the programmatic ecosystem — with support from experienced engineers on the team.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor/Master degree in Computer Science or a related field.

  • 1-2 years of relevant industry experience.

  • Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms.

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Java; experience with Python for scripting or data-driven testing is a plus.

  • Familiarity with back-end development frameworks and technologies (e.g., Spring Boot), and a basic understanding of multi-threading and concurrency.

  • Working knowledge of SQL, and exposure to NoSQL or key-value stores (e.g., DynamoDB, Cassandra, ScyllaDB, Redis).

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and with software development practices including clean, reusable code, test-driven development, and continuous integration.

  • Familiarity with Docker/Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, and GitLab CI/CD is a plus.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, and the curiosity to dig into distributed system behavior you don't yet understand.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to event-driven architectures or stream processing (Apache Kafka, Kinesis, Spark, or Flink).

  • Coursework, internship, or side-project experience with high-throughput or low-latency systems, including JVM performance and memory behavior.

  • Any exposure to digital advertising — ad servers, SSPs, DSPs, or RTB protocols such as OpenRTB.

  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation).

  • Interest in applied ML in production systems.
