Software Engineer I, Frontend (Upfunnel)
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer I, Frontend (Upfunnel) based in Canada.
The Software Engineer I will help build reliable, accessible, and high-performing frontend experiences that shape how shoppers understand flexible payment options before checkout. You will contribute to high-traffic web experiences spanning frontend libraries, promotional messaging, experimentation, and developer-facing tools. Working within a collaborative engineering team, you will turn product and business needs into clean, tested, and scalable solutions. The role offers hands-on exposure to modern frontend development, production systems, debugging, monitoring, and cross-browser performance. You will work closely with engineers and stakeholders, communicating trade-offs and proactively managing technical risks. This is a strong opportunity for an early-career engineer to grow their technical capabilities while contributing to customer-facing products used at scale.
Accountabilities

Build, maintain, and improve high-traffic frontend experiences across frontend libraries, promotional messaging, experimentation, and developer-facing tooling.

Develop reliable, accessible, performant, and scalable web experiences that clearly communicate product value to users before checkout.

Translate straightforward business and technical problems into well-designed solutions that interact effectively with multiple software components.

Write clear, maintainable, well-tested, and extensible code following strong engineering practices.

Collaborate proactively with engineers, product partners, and other stakeholders, providing visibility into project progress, technical risks, and trade-offs.

Balance development speed with quality and reliability, helping the team meet business objectives while protecting production systems from downtime.

Use browser debugging, monitoring, metrics, and testing tools to identify and resolve issues across different browsers and environments.

Participate in operational support and contribute to diagnosing and resolving production issues alongside the engineering team.

Navigate and contribute to a large codebase while debugging existing implementations and improving code quality.

Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback that helps strengthen engineering standards across the team.

Previous professional, internship, or equivalent hands-on experience building and shipping web applications.

Experience with declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue.

Experience working with JavaScript and/or TypeScript.

Ability to take a simple technical or business problem and translate it into a solution spanning multiple software components.

Strong foundation in writing clear, understandable, well-tested, and extensible code.

Comfortable navigating large codebases, debugging existing code, and participating effectively in code reviews.

Understanding of frontend reliability, performance, accessibility, testing, and cross-browser compatibility.

Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to investigate issues using debugging tools, monitoring, and performance metrics.

Demonstrated ownership of professional and technical growth, including proactively seeking feedback from managers, teammates, and stakeholders.

Candidates must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.

Base salary range of CA$101,000–CA$151,000 per year, depending on location, experience, and job-related skills.
