We have an exciting and rewarding opportunity for you to take your software engineering career to the next level.

As a Software Engineer III at JPMorganChase within the Infrastructure Platforms, Electronic Trading Services, you serve as a seasoned member of an agile team to design and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You are responsible for carrying out critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

Job responsibilities
  • Support the build, configuration, and lifecycle management of Linux server fleets supporting colo trading workloads, including provisioning, patching, hardening, and performance tuning, with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Contribute to and maintain automation for OS deployment, configuration management, and continuous compliance, reducing manual effort and improving repeatability.
  • Partner with network, trading technology, and data center teams to help optimize latency, throughput, and stability, including assisting with kernel and host-level tuning activities where appropriate (e.g., IRQ handling, CPU isolation, NUMA awareness, NIC settings) under established standards.
  • Leverages enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity across complex deliverables (e.g., code generation/refactoring, unit test creation, documentation), while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards; contributes learnings and reusable patterns to improve broader team effectiveness.
  • Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.
  • Operate and improve observability (metrics, logs, tracing where applicable, and alerting); help translate signals into actionable runbooks and reliability improvements.
  • Participate in incident response for Linux/compute-related events, including triage, mitigation, escalation, root-cause investigation support, and corrective/preventative actions; contribute to measurable reduction in recurring incidents.
  • Assist with colo hardware-adjacent responsibilities as needed, including break/fix coordination, remote hands engagement, firmware alignment, and standardized rack-level practices, following approved procedures.
  • Follow and help maintain secure access patterns, secrets handling, and least-privilege controls aligned with enterprise security and audit expectations.
  • Contribute to capacity and reliability activities such as maintenance planning, upgrade execution, resiliency testing support, and failure-mode reviews.
  • Produce clear operational documentation (runbooks, build notes, incident timelines, environment-specific procedures), and keep documentation current for colo constraints.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, or related disciplines
  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 3+ years applied experience
  • Professional experience administering Linux in production (e.g., RHEL-derived, Debian/Ubuntu) in a mission-critical or high-availability environment.
  • Working competency troubleshooting performance and reliability issues across OS, hardware, and basic networking layers.
  • Familiarity with Linux performance and troubleshooting tools and concepts (e.g., CPU/memory/disk/network analysis, process/thread behavior, system logs).
  • Scripting proficiency in Bash and Python and experience automating repetitive operational tasks.
  • Exposure to configuration management, CI/CD practices, monitoring/alerting, and structured root-cause analysis (direct ownership not required, but hands-on participation expected).
  • Experience participating in incident management processes, including documenting events and contributing to post-incident reviews.
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues, status, and risk to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
  • Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; ability to guide peers on safe and effective usage within team practices.
  • Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment (e.g., for coding, test creation, troubleshooting, or documentation) with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience supporting electronic trading, market connectivity platforms, or similarly latency-sensitive, high-availability environments.
  • Exposure to colocation data centers, remote hands workflows, controlled maintenance windows, and strict change discipline.
  • Familiarity with low-latency Linux tuning concepts (e.g., CPU pinning, interrupt tuning, time synchronization discipline), even if applied under guidance.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code patterns and standardized “golden” server builds.
  • Exposure to fleet management practices: automation-driven patching, configuration drift control, and compliance reporting.
