Summary

As a Site Reliability Engineer at Guidewire in Bengaluru, you will design, build, and operate the cloud-native services and pipelines that power our release and environment platforms on AWS and Kubernetes. You’ll apply engineering best practices, improve observability and reliability, and evolve CI/CD workflows to increase deployment safety and speed. You’ll work in a collaborative, inclusive culture where growth is shared and shaped by the people you work with and the experiences you create together.

You will be part of our Product Development & Operations (PDO) organization, which is focused on operational excellence and transformative innovation, with a strong emphasis on AI, cloud, and data platform adoption. Your work will directly advance Guidewire’s mission to transform how the world’s P&C insurers do business by delivering secure, scalable, and resilient cloud services that our customers trust. As we infuse GenAI and automation across our products and operations, you’ll help ensure our platform is reliable, observable, and ready to support new AI-powered capabilities for customers worldwide.

Job Description

What you will do

  • Design, build, and operate scalable, cloud-native services and pipelines that power Guidewire’s release and environment platforms on AWS and Kubernetes.

  • Implement and maintain cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK), enabling repeatable, secure, and auditable environments.

  • Build and evolve CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions, TeamCity) to improve deployment reliability, speed, and consistency for our engineering teams.

  • Apply and champion engineering best practices such as TDD, GitOps, trunk-based development, and high-quality code reviews to keep our systems simple, robust, and easy to change.

  • Contribute to the architecture and design of new systems and platform enhancements, occasionally leading design for well-scoped projects with clear reliability and operability goals.

  • Improve observability and reliability across services, including metrics, logging, tracing, SLOs, alerting, incident response, and post-incident reviews.

  • Collaborate closely with other pods, product engineering teams, security, and operations stakeholders to plan work, break down complex problems, and deliver iteratively.

  • Mentor junior engineers through design discussions, pairing, and code reviews, helping them grow their skills and confidence in SRE and cloud-native practices.

  • Partner with PDO and broader Guidewire teams as we embed GenAI, Agentic AI patterns, and automation into products and operations, ensuring that new capabilities are introduced safely and reliably.

What we’d like you to have

  • 6+ years of experience as a software engineer, systems engineer, SRE, or platform engineer working on production systems.

  • Strong programming experience in at least one modern high-level language such as Java, Go, or Python, with a focus on clean, testable, and maintainable code.

  • Expertise in building and maintaining APIs and CLIs that follow OpenAPI best practices.

  • Hands-on experience with public cloud (preferably AWS), containerization and Kubernetes, and CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions, TeamCity, or similar.

  • Solid understanding of how to design, build, and operate scalable, resilient, cloud-native applications and services, including patterns for fault tolerance, capacity planning, and graceful degradation.

  • Familiarity with DevOps/SRE practices: infrastructure as code, configuration management, monitoring and alerting, runbooks, and incident management.

  • A leadership mindset with a passion for learning, sharing knowledge, and helping others succeed while remaining an individual contributor.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with an ability to work effectively in cross-functional, globally distributed, and inclusive teams.
