Introductory Marketing Language:
Join us to shape the future of payments technology through innovative backend development. You’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact, grow your career, and collaborate with a diverse, inclusive team. We value your expertise and encourage you to bring your ideas to the table. Experience a culture that supports your development and celebrates your contributions. Together, we’re building solutions that empower both our customers and our developers.
Job Summary:
As a Java Software Engineer in the Payments Developer Portal team, you will design, develop, and maintain backend services that power our public-facing web portal. You will work closely with product partners and technical teams to deliver customer-facing capabilities and internal enablement. Your contributions will drive business impact, enhance platform security and resiliency, and support developer self-service. You will help foster a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect while advancing modern engineering practices.
Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with technical teams, product partners, and stakeholders to deliver customer-facing capabilities and internal enablement
- Design, develop, and maintain secure, high-quality production Java services (APIs and supporting components), reviewing and debugging code
- Contribute to decisions influencing product design, API design, application functionality, and technical operations
- Build and integrate services supporting portal experiences such as API discovery, documentation delivery, onboarding flows, entitlements, analytics, and developer self-service
- Implement and advocate for security best practices, including secure coding, secrets handling, authentication/authorization, and data protection
- Participate in agile ceremonies and promote modern engineering practices (CI/CD, automated testing, trunk-based development, resiliency patterns)
- Add to the team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect
- Leverage enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity (e.g., code generation/refactoring, unit test creation, documentation), while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards
- Apply knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Strong proficiency with modern Java (e.g., Java 11/17+), concurrency fundamentals, and performance-aware coding
- Experience building services with Spring / Spring Boot, including dependency injection, configuration, and REST services
- Strong experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs, schema/versioning practices, and contract-first or OpenAPI-driven development
- Hands-on experience with secure coding and safe data handling
- Unit/integration testing (e.g., JUnit, Mockito) and ability to build effective automated test coverage
- Experience interacting with downstream services, troubleshooting integration issues, and designing for resiliency (timeouts, retries, circuit breakers)
- Practical experience with relational databases and SQL; familiarity with caching patterns is a plus
- Exposure to agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and production support practices (monitoring, on-call readiness, post-incident reviews)
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across functions
- Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment (e.g., for coding, testing, troubleshooting, or documentation) with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate and validate AI-generated outputs
- Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Experience with AWS services relevant to backend platforms (e.g., IAM, ECS/EKS, EC2, S3, RDS/Aurora, CloudWatch, API Gateway, Lambda)
- Familiarity with microservices, service decomposition, event-driven patterns, and domain-driven design
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Understanding of Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform) and environment provisioning
- Experience with observability tools and concepts (logging, metrics, tracing, OpenTelemetry)
- Exposure to integrating AI capabilities (semantic search, retrieval-based Q&A, content summarization) with attention to quality, privacy, and governance
- Understanding of modern application infrastructure design and non-functional requirements (security, scalability, availability)
- Familiarity with caching technologies (e.g., Redis or in-memory caching patterns)
