About the role Monzo is building a modern banking platform to simplify financial management for millions of users. We are seeking experienced backend engineers to join our cross-functional squads and contribute to our mission of improving financial lives.

  • Location: Barcelona, Spain (Hybrid: 3 days per week in office)
  • Engagement: Full-time
  • Team: Collectives including Core Banking, Business Banking, Wealth, Borrowing, Growth, Payments, Platform, Fincrime, Security, and Expansion.

What you'll do

  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, data analysts, and engineers to build and maintain banking features.
  • Work within a squad to solve complex problems across our infrastructure and user-facing products.
  • Participate in a standard interview process to identify the best team match based on your skills and business needs.
  • Contribute to open source projects and maintain high standards for distributed systems.

Requirements

  • Strong professional experience in backend development.
  • Product-oriented mindset with a focus on data-informed decision-making.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity within a team environment.
  • Experience with strongly-typed languages such as Go, Java, C, or Scala.
  • Interest in building resilient, distributed software.
  • No formal degree or specific qualifications required.
