About the role Monzo is building a modern banking platform to simplify financial management for millions of users. We are seeking experienced backend engineers to join our cross-functional squads and contribute to our mission of improving financial lives.
Key facts
- Location: Barcelona, Spain (Hybrid: 3 days per week in office)
- Engagement: Full-time
- Team: Collectives including Core Banking, Business Banking, Wealth, Borrowing, Growth, Payments, Platform, Fincrime, Security, and Expansion.
What you'll do
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, data analysts, and engineers to build and maintain banking features.
- Work within a squad to solve complex problems across our infrastructure and user-facing products.
- Participate in a standard interview process to identify the best team match based on your skills and business needs.
- Contribute to open source projects and maintain high standards for distributed systems.
Requirements
- Strong professional experience in backend development.
- Product-oriented mindset with a focus on data-informed decision-making.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity within a team environment.
- Experience with strongly-typed languages such as Go, Java, C, or Scala.
- Interest in building resilient, distributed software.
- No formal degree or specific qualifications required.

- Compensation includes a base salary dependent on experience plus performance-based incentive awards.
